Hi there,
Checking in and saying hello – I know I haven’t posted for a long time, and I’ve been thinking about writing an update for ages, but as time has passed I’ve just gotten more and more sheepish about it. So much time has passed! Is anyone still reading here (ever)? Bueller? Bueller? And yet I miss doing some sort of quick written update once in a while. Blogging seems so old and “out of date.” And I myself am so much older, and such a different person, than who I was when I first started this blog. I feel I’ve changed almost entirely, the things I care about now are so different (well….some things are the same, ha).
The kids are getting older, I’m getting older, obligations are changing. I have continued to buy clothes, of course, but I feel silly posting pictures of myself in them so I’m just recycling a photo I posted on Instagram with my cousin’s incredibly well fed Shiba. I also feel it is so silly to complain about being busy since we all are, but I’ll indulge myself and say that entire series of weeks go by when I feel I have spent basically all my time doing one form of work or another. I’m writing this in between a series of birthday parties stretching out in the day basically 10 AM to 10 PM (on a Sunday!). But I still miss blogging, and connecting.
So I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Keep writing here? Or start a Substack (oh Lord… I do not think I can learn a new platform). I STILL don’t really understand Instagram or any other social media…I mean I get how to post on it (most of the time) but I don’t really get what I’m supposed to use it for, sometimes.
I really don’t know what I intended to do with this post. It’s one of those where I’m like…yeah…you can’t take 4 month hiatus and then just post this. It’s nothing! And yet I think I will, just to say that I’m here, I’ve changed, I’m a different person, and yet in a way I’m the same, and if you’re reading, I hope you are different and the same too. Does that make sense?
If you’re a reader, please do update me how you are. I miss writing here and I miss you!

September 22, 2024 at 2:29 pmI am very interested in your posts! Both the ancient ones about handbags and the more recent ones. I also loved your first novel and literally am about to start Imposter Syndrome. As in it was coincidentally on my lap. Do keep posting when time allows!

September 22, 2024 at 2:36 pmHi Kat! I’ve been reading your blog for over a decade, since I was in high school! I’ve read every single one of your blog posts since then 🙂 I love relating to your life as a fellow Bay Area Asian American woman who also works in Product Management by day while being enamored with fashion and literature outside of work — I’ve gone through my own VCA, Hermès, and travel journeys and found your blog posts + archive incredibly insightful as I’ve cultivated my own personal style.
Thank you for sharing fun and helpful bits of your life over the years! I always look forward to getting your posts in my inbox, and regardless of the cadence it always sparks joy in my life. Take all the time that you need!

September 22, 2024 at 3:20 pmI am old school and still love blog posts, glad to see you back! Your pix of bags/clothes etc were always inspiring, would love for you to keep posting here or on insta. Miss your interviews too – those were amazing!

September 22, 2024 at 3:28 pmI’ve missed your posts and you are still one of my fav blogs! Please keep updating as I think many of your readers have grown through the life stages with you! (Mom of two kids)

September 22, 2024 at 3:32 pmGreat update! But not substack, I don’t like the format, it’s information overload. Glad to hear you’re different but the same; I think that’s growth we all aim for🙏🏼

September 22, 2024 at 3:38 pmI still love blogs, especially yours! If you are sick of blogging and it just makes you feel guilty when you don’t- then stop. If it brings you satisfaction and happiness, keep it up. I love your posts. I am in my mid 40’s and do not understand social media like I should, either. The written word has been replaced by videos. Your blog is an oasis. Who else is going to tell me the special name of the crossbody strap to order from Hermes for my Kelly??? 🙂

September 22, 2024 at 3:55 pmIt was so nice to see you pop into my email stream. Since you’ve been gone (channeling Kelly Clarkson), I have been reduced to watching hot dancing men on TikTok. God, I hope Congress doesn’t ban my last bit of online fun.
Well back to packing and complaining about weight limits. Off to Turkey.
You do you. I’ll be reading

September 22, 2024 at 4:38 pmDelighted to see a post. I have missed your blog. I love the fashion analysis of films and book recommendations but it is all interesting. Travel too. I enjoy hearing how others navigate motherhood/work/creativity/extended family. I spent time in the Bay Area and SF years ago & remember it fondly. Enjoyed your books too! Reading over here in Australia.

September 22, 2024 at 6:03 pmHi Kat, I’ve been reading for years. I’ve also changed a lot since I first started – in college to now having worked nearly 10 years. My interested have changed (no longer shopping as much) but I’ve always loved reading your posts. Will continue to read whatever you do write!

September 22, 2024 at 6:14 pmGlad you are back. I only read blogs, so you are still in fashion. Hate learning new platforms. Keep doing what you were doing.

September 22, 2024 at 7:51 pmWhat a happy surprise to see a new post from you! Always love to read what’s on your mind, whether it’s shopping, career, writing, or something else!

September 22, 2024 at 10:53 pmHi Kat, why don’t you do short posts on Instagram? It is easier to reach out to readers buy using Insta. I miss your weekend posts, especially information on interesting articles and books. I have read a lot of articles and books based on your recommendation. You have a wonderful literature taste.

September 23, 2024 at 2:55 amKat, what a surprise post! I was just here earlier in the day looking through an old post, and thought about how much I missed your content. Your shopping suggestions, outfit posts, product reviews, book recommendations, and just overall vibe and writing are all fantastic and bring such joy to my life. We love connecting with you and are all still buying clothes too, so it’s nice to have someone with such impeccable discerning taste give us suggestions that we can count on. I totally understand you can’t blog as much as you used to, and am grateful for anytime you do! Blogs are my fave medium, and I say you stick to what you love! We will be here reading and feeling joyous when we do :).

September 23, 2024 at 3:22 amI miss your posts! I’ve been reading your blog for years and years. And yes – I’ve changed and aged too! I am buying less clothes (aiming for more minimalism) but reading more than ever. And I’d love to read about what you’re up to and any and all of your recommendations. ❤️

September 23, 2024 at 10:32 amWhat a nice surprise to see your post! I still love reading your blog and have also changed. I’ve started my minimalism journey about 4-5 years ago, keeping only my favorite things. I still add some luxury pieces here and there but definitely taking a backseat of my life. I would love to see you share whatever is going on in your life, luxury/fashion or not. And book recommendations! I miss that too.

September 23, 2024 at 2:24 pmHi Kat! Please keep posting…personally I still love reading your blog and don’t know that there’s a need to jump to a new platform just because it’s what all the cool kids are doing. As I’m a busy mom now too I’d love more of your thoughts on staying fashionable through this very busy and incredibly unglamourous time of life.

September 24, 2024 at 11:01 amHi! Long-time reader and love your posts (and your books). And I love your shopping insights on both luxury and everyday (seriously, your reviews of Everlane and Quince are really helpful). But I am a big proponent of doing one wants instead of what is expected. Happy to see you post here, but do what makes sense to you. Especially with kids — our free time is necessarily restricted, so you should make the choices that make sense to you.

September 24, 2024 at 12:58 pmI’m probably the same age or older than you, yet I work in digital so I adopt new platforms pretty easily. I think you’d be amazing on Substack! Same idea as blogging really. I check your website once a week, I find the updates and your shopping recommendations so relevant. Glad you checked in.

September 24, 2024 at 7:45 pmKat – I’m glad to see you’ve posted! I’ve enjoyed all of your content over the years. I’m almost a decade older than you but our life journeys have some commonalities. I was so thrilled when you began publishing books, both of which I enjoyed very much. I have related to so many of your thoughts on parenting and many of those types of articles you would post. We’ve all changed a lot over the years as we experience new stages. Good to hear from you.

September 27, 2024 at 10:48 amBeen a fan since college! Also an Asian American woman in the Bay Area. I love your old interviews and travel posts. We went on safari in Botswana for our honeymoon last year, inspired in part by your posts about Singita!

September 27, 2024 at 7:00 pmAnonymous reader for 10+ years saying I hope you won’t abandon us completely. Even if sporadic, your posts are such a great read. But if you DO decide to stop please don’t delete this blog archive. Always a great resource and so well written. Thank you for all your years of writing!!!

October 2, 2024 at 12:13 pmHi Kat! I’m a little late to the party (I got married two weeks ago!). I don’t check the blog as frequently as I used to, but it’s always exciting to see a new post. Echoing the other comments, I’ve been reading your blog for 10+ years now and it’s nice to see changes in your life as I’m experiencing changes in mine. Please do what makes you happy, although selfishly I love both your blog posts and Instagram stories! Tell us what you’re buying and where you’re going!

November 5, 2024 at 3:45 amHi! Ive been following your blog for the past 10 years and it’s the only one I check now. I really loved the weekly updates and always looking forward to reading them on the weekend. I also agree blogging is pretty much dead, but don’t give up as I am still a loyal reader!
