Weekend Update

1. Hi, first of all thank you all for your kind notes and comments about my absence from this site for a few weeks! I’ve had a bunch of random stuff come up…childcare, illnesses, etc…to be honest I didn’t realize it had been that long. But it was wonderful to read that people still come here 🙂 THANK YOU!

This week, sharing this pair of mules, from Other Stories:

I have one pair of shoes from Other Stories, and like them quite a lot, thus have gone back to their site to look for summer sandals. This is a great classic pair of the sort I’m often looking for but can’t seem to find except for super cheap/fake leather or otherwise padded and something like $1200 from Bottega. I’ll likely order!

2. Sharing this article, via Mr. Porter, about what each character’s watch choice says about them on Succession. Are you watching? I’m going to be so sad when it is all over!

3. Sharing this piece, via the NYT, about lavish children’s birthday parties. I try not to judge these as while I will not be throwing one myself I do like to attend them. Ha.

4. I loved this piece on the Goop cruise, by Lauren Oyler, via Harpers: Goop at Sea. It is so good and a little snarky, as her work usually is.

5. In the (last few) weeks, I’ve read a few books, but my favorite was Parakeet, by Marie Helene Bertino.

I really enjoyed this read – very clever, excellent writing, about a woman uncertain about her upcoming wedding. This is definitely literary fiction featuring a sort of ironic tone, some introspection- not for you if you are looking for say, a beach read. But, I didn’t find it slow at all, and it was a great read! I’m a fan of Bertino’s now. If you’re looking for good literary fiction, I highly recommend Parakeet.
