Weekend Update

1. Net-A-Porter is having a sale this week, of up to 25% off! Of course none of the items I want are in it. But still sharing these Gucci loafers.

I have been wanting this style of Gucci loafer (called 1953) forever. They made them for women and then stopped but always had them for men. Anyway, now they are back! At a horrible price. But still. On my wishlist for sure.

Also, a quick update on these shoes, which I shared in an earlier update – I received them and they HURT because of the patent. Ahh! I was so disappointed as I have been searching for this style of shoe forever. Other interested buyers, beware!

3. Sharing this article, via the NYT, about how a beat up Hermes bag is now the ultimate status symbol (to some).

4. Another fun piece, via the NYT, about Michelle Obama’s tailor and dressmaker starting her own line.

5. This week I read The Recognitions, by William Gaddis.

I’ll say off the bat that I love Gaddis but I don’t (personally) find him an easy read. I’d given a few recent more “commercial” novels a try lately however, and just couldn’t get into them…I don’t know. Would love to find a good page turner with still good writing (so if you have a rec, let me know!). In the meantime I needed a palate cleanser. Really about the life of a man who years to paint….it goes around the world is about the struggle to create art. I love it but again (warning) if you don’t love Gaddis or more dense sort of reads, I might reconsider. BUT if you do and you haven’t read this – I highly recommend The Recognitions.
