Sale PSA: Gray Cheeky jeans from Everlane, now just $32, a green suede clutch from Attico, now 40% off, and not the most glamorous item but I bought two of these long sleeve tees for layering, from Athleta, which are now $30.
1. This week, sharing these great patent mules, from J.Crew.
I love these! They are patent! And I love mules! The color blue is my top pick. I will definitely be getting them so can report back – I just hope the patent is comfortable.
PS: I also like these blue bow sandals, also 25% off.
2. I love Tina Brown and so of course am posting this great interview she did, via Bustle, on Harry, Meghan, all the royal drama, etc etc.
3. Sharing this awful piece, via the LA Times, about more fraud from Erika Girardi from the RHOBH. Ugh.
4. I liked this article, via Vanessa Friedman at the NYT, about what it means to dress “rich” now.
5. This week, I read My Last Innocent Year, by Daisy Alpert Florin.
I really enjoyed this. The plot is a “typical” student at college who has an affair with a professor – but it’s written really well, the voice is great, and so is the plotting. I heard about this book because a reader recommended (thank you Y) and I’m very happy I read it. If you’re looking for good literary fiction, I highly recommend My Last Innocent Year.

February 25, 2023 at 10:59 amAs someone from the Commonwealth with a (very very) negative view of our former colonizer, it’s hard for me to buy anything Tina says. There’s a rabid group of supporters on either side of this Mountbatten-Windsor feud that pull up receipts at every turn. What they ALL have in common? Every single book published by anyone about the family has had blatant falsehoods – except Harry’s.
I do agree with Tina on one thing: Harry told them to leave his wife and kid the hell alone, and to call off the tabloids. Charles and the rest of them thought it wise to even hire out from among the ranks of the editors of the Daily Mail. At that point (and when they let that press secretary submit evidence on behalf of ANL in a case against Meghan), bets were off. It’s highly ironic for Tina to claim that she was in the know when her own book released just last year got so many details wrong, that Harry cleared up in her own book.

February 28, 2023 at 2:51 pmSo it was Diana’s butler who released the rumor that her famous sapphire engagement ring was selected by Harry as a child and when William married, Harry offered it to William. But in Harry’s book, he said those were lies which would render everything the butler said as hearsay.
Either way, Catherine Zeta-Jones also complained that the British press were relentless during her heyday. I think H & M will be fine under the American roof where it is illegal to photograph one’s child for publishing. I am disappointed how racist the British press are..or perhaps in general. Meghan would have been a wonderful asset to the royals. But this is from someone who knew about her before the British press ruined her image.
I do agree with Tina Brown’s assessment. Diana would have wanted William to be king. Perhaps she would have asked Harry to support William and allow his older brother and sister in law to shine. But then again, Charles/Camilla could not outshine Diana. I can’t believe she will be called Queen Camilla. Argh.

March 1, 2023 at 7:55 amYou make excellent points, Anonymous! There are TWO whole people living thousands of miles away, yet they stay in the British tabloids DAILY.
Sophie and Edward just completed a tour, as did Anne. Not a word about that, but Harry and Meghan go to dinner? HEADLINES.
Someone did a count and the Daily Mail had 75 different headlines about Meghan in ONE day. It’s ridiculous. Even criminals on trial don’t get that much ink dedicated to them!

March 3, 2023 at 1:38 pmOh! I didn’t realize much of this; tbh I don’t follow the royals or Harry/Meghan because it just gets too much on either side and I’ve kind of zoned it out. I like TB because she’s a funny and witty writer but didn’t think about the rest, which is food for thought. Thank you!
