1. This week, sharing these pretty sandals from Hereu (and I also like that orange Joseph dress!)
I love fisherman sandals and I think this is a nice heeled pair. Just high enough to add some lift but still quite comfortable. I’ve never tried Hereu shoes but I find I like a lot of their designs – any feedback?
2. An interesting piece, via The Cut, about problems at The Real Real. I have to say I have been buying quite a lot from TRR lately. I’ve been trying to buy more “used” with the exception of certain categories (shoes being one, which is probably why I like shopping for shoes so much too).
3. This week I read this disturbing article, via the NYT, about the rise of Shein. I know about Shein but have never bought from there – not that it makes me so great, as I’ve bought other fast fashion. I’ve definitely gone down Shein rabbits holes where I thought I might get something – it’s just the sheer about of stuff that makes it overwhelming.
4. Multiple people sent me this video of Kate Moss going through her best outfits! I LOVE this but she has so many more! They need to do a part two.
5. This week I read This Is Going To Hurt, by Adam Kay.
I enjoyed this book! It’s basically a diary format, of a junior doctor in the UK. I will say that given that it sold a zillion copies in the UK I thought it’d be a little more of a “hero’s journey” sort of story, but it really isn’t. It’s more like a real diary. It’s clever and biting and witty and an examination of the NHS. If you’re looking for some funny and smart bedtime reading, I recommend This Is Going To Hurt.

September 10, 2022 at 7:53 pmI have a pair of the Hereu shearling moccasins, and they are amazing – expensive as hell, and also worth every penny. Construction is top notch as is the quality of the leather. Hope that helps at least generally? They run TTS in my experience, too.

September 11, 2022 at 10:51 amI’m not surprised at the trouble at RealReal. Thankfully I’ve never had to experience any of it as I don’t consign, but I buy (and buy and buy) and love it. I’ve been able to get so many fabulous vintage pieces I never would have been able to find otherwise. Being able to source so many pieces from such a large time period has been the single most transformative thing for my wardrobe and ease in executing my intentions in my styling. Story for another day!

September 12, 2022 at 8:20 amI’m an OG TRR client, and the decline has been insane to watch. Just…don’t purchase a bag that doesn’t come NWT, and with authenticity cards if the brand has them.
Fashionphile is slightly better but their pricing is so disrespectful.
It’s a pity. The business model TRR had should be making a killing in this current economy, but it seems like they lost the plot somewhere along the way.

September 16, 2022 at 11:07 amI made my first purchase on the TRR earlier this month, and the sunglasses that they listed in Excellent condition arrived with tarnished and chipped frames, absolutely filthy, and rolling around the box with no bubble wrap. I returned them and received a refund, and TRR promptly relisted the sunglasses for sale, still in Excellent condition.

September 19, 2022 at 7:51 amI bought and sold quite a few pieces with The Real Real when they launched. The last few times I bought from them, the product wasn’t at all what they described and it was painful to pay the shipping charges to return – even though they refunded me with no questions. So I stopped buying and my last purchase was five years ago. I guess it’s gone further downhill from there. I will buy from high end consignment now, only if I can go to the physical store and inspect before I buy. In general, I’m buying very selectively.
