Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Jelly sandals from Tory Burch, now $99, sleek leather derbys from Marsell, now $260, simple ballet flats from J.Crew, now $42 with code SHOPNOW, and very cute white ankle boots from By Far, now 55% off.

First, I just have to say THANK YOU for all of your insightful comments on Monday’s post! I love them all and have re-read multiple times. For anyone thinking about this topic I suggest a read, for sure.

1. This week, sharing this adorable balloon animal piggy bank.

Yes, it’s sort of Jeff Koons esque. And I’m not sure how we’re supposed to feel about Koons (this is the last article I read about him). But really it’s just fun! I bought one for my kids but I might just keep it in my office as a cheerful item.

2. An important and well written piece, via The Washington Post, tracking a family’s fall from the middle class. I subscribe to TWP (and think you should too!) but their paywall is off until Friday night, so read up if you don’t subscribe!

3. A NYT piece about Kate Quinn, the “Supreme” of baby clothes. I was a little confused by this. They don’t look that different from Gap Kids to me? I’m sure people would say the same about Chanel bags, and all kinds of items I like though!

4. A fascinating piece, via The Cut, about a Reddit subforum I previously had no idea of, on how to be hot. (That said, it has 15K subscribers? It doesn’t seem like that much).

5. This week, I read Crying in H Mart, by Michelle Zauner.

I am late to this! I know it is super popular. But I have to admit that sometimes I am nervous to read super popular books…I guess I worry that I won’t “get” it. But I totally got this one! It was well written, funny, touching, smart, and more. Lots of description of food. And mother daughter relationships. If you’re looking for a memoir that you’ll breeze through, I highly recommend Crying in H Mart.

The Ramsey story was so depressing, and upsetting. Anyone who even is able to read your blog should be grateful for what we all have. There are so many suffering, not just in the Ukraine but here in this country.

The story about the family down on their luck was heartbreaking. Unfortunately, that story is repeated for thousands and thousands of families across this country, and it is even much worse around the world. I am privileged and always have been…try as I might, I can’t wrap my head around this poverty. I feel helpless.

I think by just reading we can keep families like the Ramseys in mind when we donate, and vote, and interact with our communities. Thanks for your comments – we are all indeed so fortunate.

Thank you for sharing the article about the family. I’m quick to feel overwhelmed or disappointed by things but the article is a good reminder of how lucky I am. Makes mes so sad for so many families in the US.

I’ve heard of Kate Quinn but didn’t realize she had such a following. It makes me think of Little Sleepies. Have you heard of them? It’s a bamboo pajama company – the pjs are comfortable but some people are obsessed!! There is a Facebook group and people are so wild.
