Sale PSA: Waffle knit ankle pants from Eileen Fisher, now $74 (I have these and they are so comfy but for at home use only), a chic cotton jacket from Everlane, now under $50 (though beware final sale!), and a plush cashmere rib scarf from Nordstrom, now 50% off.
1. This week, sharing a pretty white dress from Madewell, currently up to 30% off.
I think this is very pretty and yet still appropriate for a workplace…I like the details of the seersucker which I think add some interest. I feel kind of old to be shopping at Madewell but I still like a lot of their dresses! They usually make them with pockets.
2. Sharing this piece, via Fortune, about how Chanel is placing certain restrictions on items being purchased by Russians abroad, if they plan on taking pieces back to Russia. People are cutting up their bags in response! I don’t know…go ahead? There’s nuance to this issue honestly but it all pales to the suffering of the Ukrainian people.
3. I really enjoyed this deep dive, via Harpers Bazaar, on Nadège Vanhée-Cybulski’s work at Hermes.
4. I liked this piece, via the NYT, about how false eyelashes are looking more realistic. Yay! This sounds nice. Even though I don’t think I’ve worn them since my wedding. I did have extensions briefly though.
5. This week I read The Swimmers, by Julie Otsuka.
I really enjoyed this. But I’m a long time fan of Otsuka’s work. This is a meditation on swimming but more on that – of aging and the mind. It starts at a community swimming pool and ends in a dementia care home. The language is beautiful and touching and I found myself thinking about it again and again at the end. Be warned: there are times when there just seems to be lots of lists. If you’re looking for a literary fiction read and have enjoyed Otsuka’s past work, I highly recommend The Swimmers.
