Hi there! I was so distracted last year that I forgot to post my blog birthday on time and was months late. This year, I wanted to make sure I remembered, and so put a reminder on my calendar.
Every year I indulge myself by posting on my blog birthday – it’s a way to mark time passing, and also, to be honest, I then get a freebie from thinking about what to post about that week (you know it’s hard sometimes…especially after eleven years…!!).
I don’t have much to say. To be honest, if I’m writing from the heart, well my heart is filled with quite a lot of pain and fear right. I know a lot of people are donating to Ukraine and sending their love. But also very important – even though it may be inconvenient or painful for us – is to keep thinking about it and keeping this invasion at the top of our heads. To keep abreast of developments, to put pressure on companies, to be OK to pay a few dollars more at the pump. To support nuclear power. My final thought on this is a request to please click on a link, to watch a short video from the NYT showing the moment fleeing civilians are struck by a Russian attack. What absolutely senseless loss. And what incredible bravery from those who run over to help right after, and to the photographer and journalist who put their lives on the line to document the truth.
Darn. I really didn’t want to get so much into my feelings about this right now. But it’s my blog birthday, so I can write about what I want today. Thank you all very much for reading all of these years, and for being with me on this journey.

March 7, 2022 at 2:13 pmHappy anniversary, been good knowing you these many years!
My heart is very heavy too. I have been thinking a lot about the support we can offer the people of Ukraine, and the many other people suffering right now (Uyghur people, the Rohingya people fleeing Myanmar now, the Afghans since the US pulled out), and what we can do to help in any meaningful way.

March 7, 2022 at 2:45 pmHappy Anniversary…11 years is quite the accomplishment.
I join with you in your despair. I have been making donations to several organizations that I know are doing the good work. But…I am just at a loss as to where this leads Ukraine in the future, along with the Russian people who are at odds with Putin. Once again, my eyes fill with tears multiple times every day thinking about it.

March 7, 2022 at 5:18 pmHappy anniversary and kudos on a great post. That’s exactly how I feel, Had such a great day at work and then had lovely dinner with my family, snuggled with my dogs and them bam, immediately flashed back to the photo of those bodies. Saw the news of Shell still buying Russian oil but promising to donate to charity as if that made any difference. And it gave me hope – wars arent isolated events anymore. Russia has more brute force but we have some power. We can vote with our dollars. We shall win. Its a small solace when seeing people killed but its a big step. In a right direction. xo

March 10, 2022 at 6:29 amHappy Anniversary! Your blog is the right mix of everything – literally EVERYTHING going on sprinkled in! Long may you scribe 🙂
And yes, the hardships Ukraine is enduring right now make everything else puny and trifling.

March 10, 2022 at 8:50 pmHappy Anniversary Kat! I can’t believe it’s been eleven years – I don’t feel like that much time has passed since I first discovered your blog and yet you’ve transitioned from MBA student to corporate warrior to fearless mother and renowned author.
Thinking about the current state of the world, I can’t help but be reminded of how fragile and transient peace really is. Someone once told me that the very nature of living is to be one step from tragedy and that we only cling to the illusion of stability. These last few years remind me just how true this is.
