Weekend Update

1. This week, sharing a pair of shoes I really like – these slingback loafers, from Ganni.

I thought these were going to go on sale for Black Friday. Of course, they did not! And I don’t want to pay full price, even though they are way less than other shoes I bought for full price, but I usually buy Ganni on sale. Have any of you tried their shoes? What do you think of the quality/comfort?

2. I liked this piece, via The Cut, on how Alison Loehnis – Net-A-Porter’s President – gets things done.

3. By now I’m sure you have all heard about the Chanel advent calendar drama – if you haven’t, please check out this NYTimes piece, about the controversy surrounding the calendar. What do you think? I agree it’s pretty crazy but a) it’s Chanel and b) they put it on their website! But pretty cheeky.

4. I enjoyed this New Yorker profile, of Jeremy Strong (of Succcesion) more than I thought I would. I love in-depth celebrity profiles…so much of what I read now I feel are just puff pieces.

5. This week I read Sankofa, by Chibundu Onuzo.

I had read Onuzo’s prior book, Welcome to Lagos, and enjoyed it, and so was excited for this one. It’s about a woman in her forties, living in the UK, who is looking for her father. It’s a very elegant, almost gentle story about family, and encompasses a whole bunch of things, including culture clash, generational ties, racial politics, and more. I really enjoyed it – it’s a slightly slower, more literary read – and I’d recommend Sankofa for anyone looking for a beautifully written book about family.
