Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Simple booties from Ugg, now just $60, a pretty top in cotton voile from J.Crew, now just $35 with code SHOPSALE, a flannel shirtdress from Acne, now $290, and these burnout tanks from Treasure and Bond, now just $12 (I like the shape of these a lot! I got two to try).

1. This week’s piece I’m sharing is the equivalent to a Vogue ad – it costs a zillion dollars and I would never buy it, especially on a whim, but it’s so beautiful I wanted to share. This Cartier watch:

It’s sold out, so lucky me (har har har). But I just love it from a design/beauty standpoint: the color, the face, the perfect shade of blue in both the face and strap. This is perfection. It is what I would buy were I to win the lottery, tomorrow. So pretty.

2. I liked this article, via Vogue, about Japan’s Princess Mako. I have been low key following her for years and am very happy for her that she is married and will move to New York.

3. I enjoyed this piece, via Harpers Bazaar, on 13 items Olivia Kim would buy again. I like Olivia Kim’s taste a lot and wish I could see more of her choices on Nordstrom!

4. A little article from the art world, via the NYT, about a prominent art dealer pleading guilty to peddling looted items.

5. This week I read The Uninhabitable Earth, by David Foster Wells.

This is a book about climate change: what is actually happening, what will likely happen, no matter what we do. It’s a hard read at times, and not a “oh! Actually everything is going to be FINE” message, which is probably why most of us don’t like to think about what’s going on with the Earth. I mean, I don’t. It’s horrible. And only natural. But it’s important that we do. If you’re interested in our future, the climate, global warming, and all these things which will change our lives in our lifetime, I highly recommend The Uninhabitable Earth.

The Cartier watch is not inexpensive by any means, but it’s less than a Birkin! One thing I have noticed over the past few years is that I have stopped buying expensive handbags, in favor of investing in jewelry and even the occasional watch. They take up less space, will last forever, and are way less heavy than a double-faced leather box . . . So if you love the Cartier, skip a few handbag purchases and then buy it!

That girl told those hateful biddies to pound sand, on God and everything. The amount of strength it took to go against all that vitriol – an entire kingdom rooting against you?
    Women. Damn.
When we’re done, we’re done. All the king’s horses and men could NEVAH.
P.S. – She told them she didn’t want their money either, and the best they could do was “…we will ALLOW HER to refuse our gift…” SMDH. I hope she stays away and doesn’t share any parts of her new life with them. They don’t deserve.

I looooove that watch, too. I don’t think the price is too high, it’s gorgeous and will make you happy to have it every time you put it on. I have too many high end watches that I shouldn’t be considering it but if I can figure out how to justify another watch, this one is at the top of my list.

Wow there was a march on their wedding day? I feel bad for Princess Mako’s now husband’s mother. I’m not Japanese but I can guess that a divorced (maybe never ever married) mother with a boyfriend who deliberately publicly humiliated her was vilified. The betrayal and shame!

(But on the other hand, I do somewhat understand where those protesters are coming from: a lifetime of following strict Japanese customs that govern normal everyday life sets you up to expect it from others and the Imperial Family no less)
