Sale PSA: A deep v popover shirt from Vince, now 40% off, a pretty midi dress from Ganni, now $107, and for today only (it looks like), all Everlane alpaca sweaters are $75. I am attracted to the cobalt!
1. This week, sharing these loafers from Madewell, currently 30% off with code GOSPREE.
I love these! I think they are very cute. The right balance of classic penny loafer with a bit of lug sole without going over the top. Super office appropriate. I like the tan because the color blends with the wooden heel nicely. What I do not like is that all the sizes are out currently, so I can’t try. Next time!
2. Sharing this article, via Elle about the “Repladies” forum on Reddit. I had no idea about this and was fascinated. I read a few threads and I thought they seemed like pretty happy places! But then I stopped because I could feel myself going down a huge time suck and couldn’t give up hours of my life. I don’t want to make a judgment on these replicas…to each their own.
3. A thoughtful and heartwrenching piece, via the NYTimes, about Linda Evangelista and her current battle over a plastic surgery mishap.
4. Tangentially related to the supply post I wrote on Monday – an interesting NYT piece about the fight for sneakers. I know nothing about sneakers. However in the past I have liked a few that I’ve seen, only to look them up and realize they are thousands of dollars. Why!
5. This week I read Malice, by Keigo Higashino.
I loved this. One of my favorite genres is Japanese mysteries – I just wish more were translated! It was only until I was almost done that I realized Higashino has written some of my other favorites, including The Devotion of Suspect X. If you like Japanese books, and especially Japanese thriller/detective novels, I highly recommend Malice.

October 23, 2021 at 9:39 amI’ve been aware of Repladies for a few years after it was mentioned on another subreddit. (I’ve occasionally bought some unbranded items from TaoBao via SuperBuy that I learned about on Repladies.) It’s really fascinating and ah, does make me too scared to buy designer items secondhand since I’m not a knowledgeable or educated customer of any designer brands and it seems clear from Repladies that there are a lot of extremely accurate counterfeits circulating out there.
The Elle article you linked raised the issue of how expensive it actually is to, er, partake in that market. Since most bags probably cost at least ~$150-$300 each and one never knows until it arrives if the bag will have some issue (leather doesn’t feel good, possible defenct, the bag really smells, some detail is really inaccurate) that makes it not very usable in practical terms, or if the package could get seized by customs, it’s actually an extremely expensive “hobby” with a fair bit of risk that one could waste $100+ dollars at any given time. I think a lot of people on Repladies spend more on shopping than I do and I buy myself some really nice things!

October 23, 2021 at 2:45 pmThese are all really interesting points! I went back after your comment and you’re right – some are really expensive! It’s almost an art it seems with some of them…they seem incredibly detailed.
