1. This week, sharing this “34” candle from Diptyque.
Yes, I am thinking about this candle as it is one of my recent favorites and I was semi-grouchy there were no full sizes in the Nordstrom anniversary sale (instead it is usual travel size box). But it is one of my favorite scents from Diptyque, so complex – it’s meant to mimic the mix of scents in their Saint Germain store and when you light it you can totally imagine it. Just a little way to travel in your mind at least!
2. An interesting article, via Refinery 29, about what it’d actually cost for various women to return to the office.
3. I really enjoyed this piece, via the NY Times, about Keith McNally (owner of Balthazar, etc).
4. A snarky piece, but quite funny and observant, via the NYTimes: Are You A Bezos?
5. This week I read The Paper Palace, by Miranda Cowley Heller.
This is the Reese pick of the month (which means you might have heard about it already!). I really enjoyed the book – I finished it in a few days and I’d definitely describe it as a page turner, about a woman in her fifties torn between her husband/father of her children, and her childhood friend (who has loved her since they were young). If I have a tiny quibble it’s a little bit of a lady fantasy (two men, a HOT FAMOUS ARTIST and a RICH BRITISH JOURNALIST both obsessed with one GORGEOUS woman) – but what’s wrong with a little fantasy? Certainly male authors have been doing it for centuries! It isn’t all romance though – there’s a fair amount of trauma, some disturbing scenarios. If you want a good beach read, I’d highly recommend The Paper Palace.
