Sale PSA: A (gray!) Le Pliage from Longchamp, now 20% off (there’s also these in blue and red on sale), a pretty cotton voile dress from J.Crew, now 25% off with code WEEKEND, and a UV protection hoodie from Uniqlo, now $25 (I also like these Marimekko bags, though not on sale!)
1. This week, sharing a dress on my wishlist, from Ulla Johnson.
I have a love/hate with Ulla Johnson (I know I’ve talked about this before). I really love the designs! But why so much $$? And half the time I worry there are TOO many ruffles – I worry I’ll look cartoonish. And yet her pieces are often so pretty and fun to wear. This dress is a little too ruffly for my usual taste and yet I still really love it. It is on my “waiting for sale” list. Although I am a little afraid I’ll look like Dolores from Westworld.
2. Sharing this piece, via Nick Bilton for Vanity Fair, on the rise and fall of “shitcoins.”
3. Are you one of the many people with Barefoot Dreams items? I have quite a few – robes and cardigans and blankets. So I enjoyed this piece, via the NYT, about the brand.
4. A very intelligent and interesting essay, via Vanessa Friedman also for the NYT, about why Hollywood seems to love demonizing the fashion industry.
5. This week I read Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still, by Kristina Kuzmic.
This is one of those books in the genre I’d describe as – memoir in which woman’s life falls apart/isn’t going well and she puts it together. Which may sound snarky but I really like these types of books – they are usually fun to read with a great voice and you learn something too! And I’d put Kuzmic at the top of the pack for this category – she’s just a great writer with a great story and a sense of humor. If you’re looking for a self-help book, but not really a self-help, just an inspiring story that might inspire you too, I highly recommend Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still!
