Also, for anyone looking for a fun little diversion – I was recently recommended this Etsy embroidery kit, which is also very nicely priced!
1. This week, sharing this simple bucket hat, from Uniqlo.
This is just what I said above: a simple hat! That said I have found it quite hard to find bucket hats that aren’t too big of a brim and not too small. Not too fisherman-y, but I still want it to be utilitarian. This one hits all the right spots and if you’re looking for a hat to protect your face (aren’t we all going to be frolicking outdoors this summer) – this Uniqlo might be right for you.
2. A fascinating piece, via Vulture, about a little known area of the film industry – The King Of The Geezer Teasers. For Vanderpump Rules fans there’s some crossover there (I still haven’t watched this show – I just know I’ll get addicted!).
3. A fashion piece, via the NY Times, about Lena Dunham’s new plus size line. Do you think size 26 (and not above) is truly “plus size”? I’ve read some debate about it. I do think Lena Dunham is so incredibly creative; I re-watched a few episodes of Girls the other day and was reminded of how clever and at times heartbreaking it could be.
4. A very interesting analysis, via The Washington Post, over what went wrong with the Conde Nast/Alexi McCammond hiring. It seems like both McCammond and Teen Vogue staffers weren’t given ideal situations.
5. Finally, sharing an extra article this week – which I wrote, via People, about why not every character in my new novel is Asian. I’m sheepish sharing my work so please excuse the self promotion; however I am truly thankful to be able to write a little more about my novel and how it came to fruition.
6. This week, I’m reading American Gods, by Neil Gaiman.
This has been on my list forever. It’s actually one of those books I thought I’d already read (as I own it!) and maybe I did back in high school but I didn’t remember any of it, it seemed brand new to me. And wow! I’ve forgotten how Gaiman earned his reputation – aka how innovative he is with structure and ideas and stories and characters. Warning: lots of dream scenes! If you’re looking for some excellent, mind twisting fantasy, I highly recommend American Gods.

April 9, 2021 at 9:01 amOf course size 26 is plus size! This is not referring to size 26 jeans, it is women’s size…14, 16, 18, 20…26. A size 26 is for a very large woman, i.e. 54 in. bust, 48 in. waist.

April 10, 2021 at 5:41 pmYes! There is also the argument thought that the size range should have expanded to even larger…I’m a bystander in this argument, interested in hearing all sides!

April 9, 2021 at 11:25 amYour People article almost made me cry, especially the last sentence, in a good way!! I feel so lucky to have this connection to you through this blog and to have you as a voice to tell our stories as Aisan Americans and an Asian American voice to tell stories of all people. Cant wait for your book to arrive in my mail!

April 11, 2021 at 3:32 pmI enjoyed your People piece and the nuances you brought up. It reminds me of black writers who were pressured to write specific type of stories because they would sell more, when they wanted to write fantasy etc. Looking forward to reading your book!
