Sale PSA: A silver mini wrap dress from Rhode, now just $106, adidas platform Superstar sneakers, now 33% off, and a sheer shirt from Uniqlo, now $15 (I think this looks quite versatile!), and a soft crewneck bodysuit from Everlane, now $30.
Recently I started on my big spring cleaning – putting away all the kid’s stuff, sorting it (dear lord this alone takes up SO much time). I also started putting away all my heavy fleece hoodies and sweatpants. Of course, given Covid, I’m still mostly wearing loungewear, and realized that I needed to do a refresh of lighter items that are still comfortable. In my quest, I tried quite a few different brands and options and thought I’d share some favorites with you today:
My favorite loungewear (both top and bottom): Madewell!
I was surprised by this because sometimes I feel that I’m a little old for Madewell. I still love their flannel shirts but a lot of times I’ll look at their stuff like: ah cute, I hope someone in their twenties buys it! This was my first time trying their “MWL” line which has always annoyed me because it is never included in their promotions. Anyway, I finally gave in.
Madewell/MWL Cocoon Hoodie: I really like this. It is perfect for my needs – slightly cropped, but not too much, a really light material that is still substantial, and SOFT, a nice big hood, and big pockets. The only (slight) con is that there is this small MWL ribbon along the inner hood…I wish it were just plain white ribbon. But otherwise, it is great. I especially like the oversized drop arms…so easy to move around. It was painful for me to pay full price for this and the only way to get a discount was to pair it with a bottom (to get a paltry 20% off), and so I purchased the:
MWL Stitched Pocket sweatshorts: And lo and behold, I actually really liked these! I didn’t think I would and guessed I’d probably return them. But I didn’t. They are a good length (not too long, not too short); they have really nice, STURDY pockets that can hold quite a bit, and are still sleek, and have a nice tiny design detail of the slit along the sides. I was also nervous as I ordered my usual XS but ah Covid has….made my waistline more sensitive let’s just say that, and the XS is super duper comfortable. So overall, very pleased with my foray into Madewell loungewear!
Honorable mentions:
Old Navy lightweight hoodie. At basically 1/3 the price of the Madewell, I had to give this a try. And it’s nice, and there are lots of colors available. But the material is so so, and what really made me return it was that the zipper is super thin and flimsy. As someone who is always impatiently yanking up or down at my zipper I was fairly certain I’d break it and didn’t want to take the chance.
I held similarly high hopes for their extra high waist dolphin shorts – they have a super cute design and again, the price. However, they were just more flimsy all around, which I don’t think should be a surprise given the low price. And also, just FYI, the XS in these were tighter than in the Madewell. I would have probably taken a S just for comfort.
Aritizia thermal hoodie: I liked this a lot. And really wanted it to work, as I love thermal material! But ultimately it was a little too short for me (but keep in mind I am also long torsoed). I find Aritzia to be quite trendy – and I know the trend now is really really cropped. But this was just a little too much for my comfort. I might try the boxy version next, and size up. But overall I do really love that there are CROPPED options now everywhere for hoodies!
What have been some of your favorite spring loungewear buys?

April 26, 2021 at 6:46 pmI hate my closet right now. So much stuff, so little need! Would love it if you do a blog on why it is so hard to divest. In my case, Covid plus losing a bunch of weight means almost nothing fits…. Do i get rid of stuff now or do I figure I will probably regain and want it back? Defeatist much?
