Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Nike Flyknit running shoes, now 25% off, a very pretty empire top from Madewell, now 25% off, pajama joggers from J.Crew, now up to 40% off with GOSPRING, and an always useful Northface parka (save it for next winter), now 40% off.

1. This week, sharing this beautiful tote from Valextra.

Edited: thank you to C who informed me both that my links didn’t work, and that she is also a buyer for one of the luxury sites and that she both has this bag and that it doesn’t stay on her shoulder (though she noted she has thin shoulders). So just FYI!

Edited again, that Elaine updated in the comments that she doesn’t have issues with the bag on her shoulder. She has this beautiful version. I had to do this post on my phone(don’t ask) so apologies for the multiple edits/link issues.

I hadn’t looked at Valextra for quite some time and was surprised by how well priced (relatively, at least) the bag was compared to so many other luxury offerings lately. They have so many great combinations but this green in particular caught my eye – so cheery and fun for spring, and a nice pop against a mostly neutral wardrobe. That and the fact that the outer pocket is large enough for a phone. And the adjustable strap. A winner all around.

2. A piece, via the NY Times, about how the rich are spending during the pandemic. It is exactly the sort of piece you think it is (and yet I still was interested enough to read).

3. For anyone who might want to learn more about Elsa Peretti, the NY Times did a wonderful piece on her life.

4. Sharing this piece, from the New Yorker, is for all the true crime fans out there. Really well done and complicated article about one of the few female mass shooters.

5. This week I’m reading Parable of the Sower, by Octavia Butler.

I’d had this on my list for awhile, but can’t believe it took me so long to read it, especially as I had read and enjoyed Kindred awhile ago. Parable is dystopian/slightly sci-fi, but grounded in reality (aka if you’re turned off by the idea of sci-fi…don’t be). The writing as always is wonderful, and Butler is eerily (sorry to use a cliche word, but I couldn’t think of a better one) prescient. If you’re looking for a literary page-turner, I highly recommend Parable of the Sower.

Hi Kat! I have that Valextra bag and love it! No problems with it staying on my shoulder (and I would say I have an average shoulder span? Lol never really thought about it.) But good to know it doesn’t work for narrow shouldered people. Also the link still isn’t working fyi ?

    Hi Kat,

In light of the NYT piece about what the rich are spending during the pandemic is the piece about the upended Hamptons social order caused by all the mass exodus from Manhattan. A read you might find interesting if you have not already read it.

And in response to an old post about supporting local restaurants when getting delivery or picking up – tip very, very generously; it’s one thing to support the local businesses, but another to support those who have to deliver the food and also to tip when you pick up the food just makes the restaurants feel cared for during such a tough time for all.

Loved the photo of gorgeous Baby Feather 2 in one of your posts, she is so adorable!

    xx
