1. This week, sharing a more practical wanted item: this Fjallraven mini backpack.

We pretty much hike all the time now. It is our only family activity. Stalking playgrounds for when nobody is around, going to retrieve takeout, and hikes. And as we are going hiking so often, occasionally even my trusty Baggu crossbody (by the way I love the new leopard print) can kind of pinch across the chest – so the other day I thought, why not a little backpack? This Fjallraven can hold a good amount and I hope the thin straps are okay because I’m not going to put tons in them…will report back how it goes!

2. Sharing this interesting WSJ article about people who tour houses just to snoop on the owners of the homes. Do you remember those days when there were open houses and we could all just visit houses and mingle in a closed space with strangers?

3. An interesting piece, via the NY Times, about how brands like Louis Vuitton are using high jewelry to shore up their brands. Do you guys watch Bling Empire? Totally random thought but I was so surprised that both Christine and Anna have the same LV high jewelry necklace…it is not where I would spend my high jewelry budget but what do I know?? I have neither bling nor empire.

4. One more piece, again via the NY Times, about finance bros (and tech bros) all moving to Miami. I have to be honest, I read this hoping to hate on all the people moving (and they do sound obnoxious) but it also makes Miami sound pretty good.

5. This week I read Mr. Peanut, by Adam Ross.

I randomly came across this book…I think I saw it on some reading list years ago, and remembered its name, and then forgot about it until I decided to try it last week. And I loved this book! It’s a kind of crazy story with three male protagonists all dealing with problems in their marriage. There’s a murder, and also a former accused murderer/now police detective, and all kinds of other stuff. But I would definitely caveat that by saying it is not a thriller in the traditional sense. There’s a lot of plot, and yet I would say that this book a) does not tie all “neatly” up, and b) can be quite dark. I loved it and am in awe of Adam Ross and his writing but just to be clear, I’d describe it as the spiritual opposite of a novel like Where The Crawdads Sing (which I also enjoyed just to be clear). If that sounds good to you (it does to me), I highly recommend Mr. Peanut.

PS: Thank you all so very much for your kind comments about wanting posts on both Monday and Friday on this Monday’s post! I really appreciate it. I wanted to respond back to each but honestly time has just gotten away from me this week. I’ll keep posting on Mondays and Fridays for as long as I can!

Ahh I forgot you were from there (I remember your comment about ALT in Lagos, LOL). What do you think about it? I just read a few articles about gold and cobalt mining and would love to hear your opinion on foreign mining!

The Bling Empire story line seems made up. In real life, the Power Ranger’s girlfriend pitched the Bling Empire project and is one of the producers. She met Kevin and they threw his storyline to represent the “average income” clueless outsider. The KKuWTK producer knew of Anna Shey and kept her in the back of his mind years before they made the show. She is benevolent; she offered to borrow her Rolls Royce for a month to the producer. It’s pretty much acting like KKuWTK. Although, majority of the people in it are indeed rich. Jamie, the youngest one, is probably being the richest of all. She doesn’t need to worry about making money from Instagram as they joked qround. Her father is a $4B worth CEO in your area of Silicon Valley, and she and her father are pretty close. I doubt she needs to find a job. Trust fund anyone?

I think LV did some product placement in the show along with other brands. VLA and Cartier did do some appearances, but I think they really owned them. And Anna Shey’s house is up for sale. She owns another one around the corner.

Ooh thank you for all this detail!! This all makes sense (and in line with reality TV). In a way the Power Ranger girlfriend (love that this is her name) doesn’t really belong and I think I mentioned this before but I hate the love triangle storyline as it is so fake!! Just get rid of it and give Kane more air time! Haha.
