Sale PSA: A simple cotton jumpsuit from Everlane, now $48, Nice slides from Steve Madden, now under $60, the Fjallraven backpack, now 20% off (everything is 20% off right now!), and a classic Eric Javits hat, now 50% off (I love my EJ hats, paid full price and have had them for years. They are rarely on discount).
Also: thank you to Liz for the recommendation of these Uniqlo masks – I placed an order too!
1. This week, recommending a pair of linen pants from one of my favorite linen makers on Etsy, Linen Fox.
I am a linen pants fan – I have a few pairs from various makers and Linen Fox is one of my favorites! These have pockets and something that I appreciate is that they are designed in a way, visible from the front, instead of hidden on the side (which I think can make them look lumpy). The price is very good for linen pants but what I really love is the level of customization (the colors! The length!). If you have specific measurements you can also let them know and they are very responsive.
2. A short funny piece via McSweeney’s, of a Manhattan Kindergarten application essay.
3. Ugh. I think i shared something before about the Stauffers – here’s an update on that, Un-Adopted, via The Cut.
3. Another Covid relationship piece, this time via The Cut: How To Get Divorced In A Pandemic.
5. This week, I read The New Wilderness, by Diane Cook.
This book was good. Really good. I love dystopian novels but they have to be well written and this is for sure that! Cook is a beautiful writer and the book both keeps you engaged (aka has a plot) while never dumbing down the characters or their actions/thoughts. I will say (because I’ve had prior complaints) that this is not a “everything wrapped up, super happy ending” – not that it’s UNhappy but this is a literary novel and you’re not going to get that picture perfect hunky dory end. BUT I really loved it. A longer read and I enjoyed every page. I highly recommend The New Wilderness.

September 5, 2020 at 7:14 amYour description of a beautifully written novel with an intriguing plot reminded me of a new favorite. I highly recommend “Picking Bones from Ash” by Marie Mockett if you have not read. Also, thanks for blogging through the years and I hope you won’t stop!

September 5, 2020 at 4:49 pmI read the article on the Stauffers. Thank you for sharing. I think it’s for the best that they found the child a better Home. Not everyone is cut out to care for a child or someone with special needs. That’s one of the reasons so many parents are in nursing Homes.
