Sale PSA: A romantic midi dress from Reformation, now 50% off, a linen shirtdress from Uniqlo, now under $20, leather mules from Everlane, now under $95 (I have these from years earlier and love them), and a cute tie shoulder linen top from J.Crew, under $15 with code 3DAYS (my god the prices on the J.Crew site!).
Also, I’m sure you already know but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now public and in true basic blogger fashion I really want this cardigan! But am I just under some sort of sale delusion? If any of you have let me know how it is!
1. This week: sharing a bag I like a lot! Even though it’s somewhat impractical (at least the price): this little raffia crossbody, from Loewe.
It’s very cute is it not? I love straw bags for summer but the problem is that I don’t find it practical to tote this giant, often quite stiff bag with me everywhere (though it does look cute). This bag is the perfect solution and it is priced to extort me. And I will also admit that I first found about it via a celebrity photo of Emilia Clarke.
It is also available at Nordstrom, and still in stock in that great tan color, from Saks.
2. An interesting piece, via The Verge, about dating app scams in the age of Covid. Beware!
3. I liked this article, via the WSJ (I know, paywall) about Kamala Harris and how her sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha have sprung to support her. In grad school one of my favorite shopping buddies was former AKA and I remember she would always be looking at baby pink and green items even though she really mostly wore all neutrals.
4. A fascinating article, via the NY Times, about how the DVF brand was left exposed by the pandemic. I hope DVF survives. I remember how special it felt to get a DVF dress. But yeah, I haven’t shopped there in years.
5. Not an article but I wanted to share this great project, via The Smithsonian/National Museum of African American History, of transcribing historical documents from the Freedman’s Bureau. A good way for you (or your child??) to spend some time!
6. This week I read Stories Of Your Life And Others, by Ted Chiang.
I’ve been on a short story kick lately! Re-reading some of my favorites including by Curtis Sittenfeld and I got this off my bookshelf. I’d read a few of Chiang’s stories but never finished the book and so thought I’d finish. And it was really good! Every story was interesting and thoughtful and characteristically stylish in the Ted Chiang way. If you like sci-fi (but less crazy space battles with alien monsters and more thoughtful concepts/etc), and short stories, I highly recommend Stories Of Your Life And Others.

August 21, 2020 at 10:54 amI think the cardigan is super comfy especially for the Bay Area and SAH or WFH. Just go to the smallest size. It runs very big. And it is thick compared to other Barefoot cardigans. Hopefully they will restock. They restocked some items this morning especially for kids (Tucker + Tate). But things are selling out quickly.
The online article reminds me of your family trust book and the mom in the story! Can’t wait to read your 2nd one. ? Have a great weekend

August 21, 2020 at 10:58 amI meant to say the dating apps (not online dating article). Just goes to show the story you wrote last year is ahead of its time.

August 24, 2020 at 3:23 amLove Loewe’s natural fiber range. I was contemplating if I should add the Pochette Raffia as posted above. I love the Medium Basket, bought two years ago but held back as it doesn’t make sense to have two although different styles.
DVF dresses caught my attention some time back but never got around owning one due to its high prices, especially over here in Asia and they are mainly jersey.
