Weekend Update

Sale PSA: An easy cotton dress from Nili Lotan, now 55% off, a fun striped t-shirt dress from J.Crew, now 50% off, a ribbed crewneck sweater from Vince, now up 70% off, and a light summer cardigan from Uniqlo, now under $20.

1. This week, sharing these shorts, from Reformation.

I’ve been waiting a long time for these to come back in stock! I eyed them earlier, tried to wait for one of Reformation’s site wide sales, upon which they were all sold out, and then I got a size small because I thought they ran small, but they actually run quite true to size, so I had to wait until XS appeared. And now, they finally are back in stock. Woohoo! Simple and chic linen shorts with a smocked waist – the only downside is a lack of pockets but if they had them it wouldn’t be such a sleek fit.

PS: They are also available at Nordstrom, but keep selling out.

2. Sharing this piece, via the NY Times, about whether a cult hair care line caused thousands of women to lose their hair.

3. I enjoyed this article, via The Atlantic – Fashion’s Classism and Racism Are Finally Out of Style. May this be true, and may the industry continue to evolve!

4. For those looking for a long, gossipy yet disturbing read, check out Vanity Fair’s piece on Ghislaine Maxwell’s life on the lam. You are welcome!

5. This week, I’m reading Lost Children Archive, by Valeria Luiselli.

It was actually my editor who recommended this book. I asked her what she’d read lately that she liked, and she said this, and I went to look it up and realized I already owned the digital version! I had bought it when American Dirt came out, and there was all that controversy – there was a list of books to buy from true Latin authors instead, and I bought this one and Enrique’s Journey (recommended earlier) as well as a few others. I knew next to nothing about Lost Children when I started, so I was surprised to find that it’s kind of a road trip novel. But also, a book about marriage. And refugees, and the suffering these children go through, and also why just listening to a radio segment about it on NPR might make us feel like we are good people but how we forget about it right after. It should be known that the novel is almost in journal format, and is more contemplative/slower than say, a thriller – the reason why I haven’t finished it yet is because sometimes I just want some sugar for my brain, you know? But if you want a work which makes you think and where you the writing is beautiful, thoughtful and admirable, I recommend Lost Children Archive.
