Sale PSA: Staud cotton cropped pants, 60% off, a luxe crop tee from Everlane, now under $27 (for anyone looking for a light summer shirt – this is a heavier tee, and I think better for fall/winter months), and simple slides from Sam Edelman, now under $50.
1. This week – for anyone still searching for some good masks, I’m recommending these masks, from Athleta.
I really like these because a) they have an adjustable nose, b) the fabric is comfortable, but c) – and you would think this is a simple common detail – there are beads that make the ear loops adjustable!! These are the most comfortable masks I’ve found so far (I also just bought these this week and will update how they are) so wanted to share.
2. An interesting article, via Forbes, about one of the worst business deals ever, the acquisition of StubHub, just weeks before Covid-19 descended.
3. A thought provoking piece, via WWD, about the fashion revolution to come. We are going through one of the greatest disruptions to everyday life in living history. There are going to be changes felt in every arena, including fashion, luxury. In a way, I can’t wait to see.
4. Sharing a story, via Oprah Mag, by the always great Curtis Sittenfeld – LOL White Women. A great short story (for free)! And relevant for our current times.
5. This week, I read Writers and Lovers, by Lily King.
This book, just based on its description, is not one I would have ordinarily chosen – first person, about an aspiring writer (a lot of books written by writers are about people who are…..writers, for obvious reasons). And yet, I heard so many great things about it I just had to try. And it was lovely. So well written and perfect and just a wonderful read to to lose yourself into at night. If you’re looking for some lighter fare, an easier time, a kind of “coming of age” that you know will have a happy ending (hope I’m not spoiling anything here) – I recommend Writers and Lovers.

June 12, 2020 at 2:46 pmThat short story – jesus – as a fortyish white lady, what an uncomfortable read. The only way to distance myself from this similarly-situated woman is to think defensive thoughts about why I’m not racist like her. But the rub is that that’s precisely what she would do upon reading such a story – think defensive thoughts – and so if I’m not like her, I must sit here supposing I am in fact equally unpleasant and racist.
