Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Another pretty dress from Ulla Johnson (see below), now 40% off, square Ray-Ban aviators, now 30% off, and the super popular Natori “Feathers” bra in all colors (!) now 25% off (for when we wear bras again).

1. Today, sharing a beautiful dress which I hope I can wear one day, from Ulla Johnson (on sale!).

I love Ulla and especially her simple, can wear as “casual” dresses and his is so pretty. I track the brand and this is really early for a sale! And it’s a good one -40% off (which is the minimum for me when it comes to a brand like UJ). That being said I’ve noticed a lot of early sales jumping off (like on Matches Fashion). No surprise I guess, but I hope some of our favorite retailers make it. And on that note –

2. An interesting article about a debacle which occurred when Draper James gave away free dresses to teachers online. I thought the bit about celebrity personal identities getting mixed up with their brands really fascinating.

3. If you’ve got some time to spare – please check out this wonderful true crime piece via Vanity Fair. For all my fellow true crime fans!

4. Finally, an article about pay cuts coming to Conde Nast. I wouldn’t normally share this – I try not to share articles that are just bad news, but this has obvious fashion relevance and also my book reading this week is Conde Nast related (see below)! I really hope they make it through.

5. This week, I read Save Me The Plums, by Ruth Reichl.

Oh man am I happy to recommend this book. Written by the last (ever) editor in chief of Gourmet Magazine about her time there, this book taught me so much about the workings of magazine life, food, and so much more. Reichl is a wonderful writer and just seems like such a cool person – she is witty and funny and smart and such a good writer. One of my favorites of the year so far – I highly recommend Save Me The Plums.

Hi Katherine! I loved Save Me the Plum also. Reichl’s other nonfiction is great – Tender at the Bone, Comfort me with Apples and especially Garlic and Sapphires (about her stint as the NYT restaurant critic). Question for you — where do you stand on the fancy sneaker trend??

If you like Ruth Reichl, you would love Laurie Colvin, a food writer who died way too soon. Check out her books – she’s great!

Pretty dresses. The sales have been quite extraordinary this spring, not surprisingly. Thank you for great reading suggestions. Anything for distraction. Stay safe.
