Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Soft sweatpants from Joie, now $71, all Ray-Ban sunglasses are currently 30% off (I’m definitely going to get a pair! Just deciding which one), a super cute crop hoodie from Madewell, now 50% off, and this pretty bralette from Free People, now 25% off (once we all start wearing bras again).

1. Yes, we’re all looking at loungewear, but I have to believe one day I will leave my house and so I am sharing a nice green linen dress, from Sleeper.

Though to be honest, I came across this brand while looking for linen lounge suits to wear at home, and found this adorable one (all my shopping is lounge wear). But I love green in general and linen and this dress is lovely and bra friendly so why not share – looking at it makes me think of spring and better days.

2. Sharing this piece, via the WSJ, The Creation and Myth of Kanye West. Some people I know can’t stand Kanye, some find him super boring and irrelevant, some think he is a genius – I’m somewhere between all three.

3. What do you all think about this NY Times piece, about luxury stores boarding up their windows? A little eerie, no? They’re in it for the long haul, it seems. Really curious to see what luxury sales look like this quarter.

4. For fellow parents – you can read this article, via The Cut, about how others are navigating childcare right now. For me, I’m just working at night, sleeping a lot less. The one parent who takes their kids to their grandparents for childcare, cause they’re “relatively young” – I wonder how that’s aged in the last two weeks, since most of the people surveyed are in NY. Or the people asking their neighbors for help. Are they still doing that? No judgment, by the way – it is freaking HARD!

5. This week, I read Essays After Eighty, by Donald Hall.

I really loved this one. Hall is an acclaimed poet (who I’d heard of but honestly never read) – I went into this knowing barely anything about him. And the essays are exactly what you’d expect – a series of them, written in exquisite prose, about what it’s like to be over eighty years old and looking forwards and back. I also have to say that while Hall is undeniably a wonderful writer his writing itself is never fluffy – it’s clean and direct and everything I admire. Kind of like a cross between Nora Ephron and Alice Munro (but a man!). Highly recommend Essays After Eighty, especially if you like…duh, essays.

Just downloaded the Donald Hall book…sounds intriguing. I turn 69 next month and I am thinking more and more about aging.

Frustrated about the many WSJ articles I see posted but can’t read…and I am not inclined to subscribe.

Lastly…I do sympathize with the plight of parents cooped up with small children, but a few “influencers” on Instagram do nothing but complain. Most don’t…but the few that do are very depressing…I wish they would stop it. If you can do nothing but complain and post sad faces, why do it publicly?

    Rant over!

Are you ordering the sleeper dress? If so please do a review! I see them on Instagram a lot so have been eyeing forever but it seemed hard to justify the price. Now that I’m home for at least 6 weeks I think I’m ready to bite the bullet, but am debating which style. Love the Atlanta but maybe it’s not good for petities…
Anyway I found this review super helpful:

I do love those Sleeper dresses, but I’m not sure they would flatter someone with a full bust.
