Sale PSA: A cashmere turtleneck from Halogen, now under $50, a pretty shirtdress from Saloni, now $290, and some of my favorite Nikes, including these Air Max Dias, are on sale for under $75 right now (I got two pairs and my husband a pair too).
Thank you to Ava for reminding me that my blog has been up for over nine years now. To be honest I completely forgot about it given world events but I always do a little post when my anniversary comes and so I wanted to keep up the routine. Besides, nine is almost ten!
I don’t really know what to say right now. We are living through history – this is going to be written about in history books going forward (if we assume there will be a “going forward”, and if we can’t assume this, then what can we)? We (as in me, my husband, and our two children) have been in complete isolation since last Wednesday, so over ten days so far, and expect to keep this up at least another full week before seeing anyone else (likely just my mom). It is both so hard and also really nothing much to suffer at all, in light of what people around the world are going through and the risks they are taking to keep the rest of us safe. I know that this event is changing me, who I am and what I believe in and what I believe a society should be like, every day – it’s shifting the memories I hold dearest and what I think is most important and the kind of life I’d like for myself and my children in the future.
And to bring it back to my blog…well, over the last nine years there have been posts I regret, posts that I now find embarrassing, posts that I look back on to remember “the good times”, or even just to see how a piece of clothing looked when I wore it. There have been times I wanted to delete everything or even just stop but every year I’m glad I never did and haven’t yet. I’m so glad that I have this little space, and all of you here with me, as we move through these next days and weeks and months and I truly wish that we can all look back at this period as something we moved past but will always remember. Thank you all so much for reading, commenting, and I truly wish you all the best in good health and safety. Thank you, thank you.

March 23, 2020 at 10:44 amHappy anniversary and thank you thank you thank you! Like Anna, I look forward to reading your blog every Monday and Friday and I also find myself googling older posts because I appreciate your perspective so much. I’ve been reading your blog almost since the beginning (March 2012) and I’ve mentioned you to many people over the years as “my blogger friend- she’s a blogger, but we’re actually kinda friends” 🙂

March 23, 2020 at 10:46 amAnd thank you. Ever since discovering your blog many years ago through the purse forum, visiting your blog became a routine and hobby every Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Even now more so than ever, I find it reassuring and comforting to find your posts during their regular schedule like a tiny corner of normalcy in these unprecedented times.

March 23, 2020 at 11:05 amI would be horribly sad if you ever ended your blog. Your blog is an oasis for me during tough times and always a treat during happy times. I’ve been here since almost the beginning and as your family has grown, so has mine. Although we don’t know each other in real life, I’ve enjoyed sharing life with you in a sense. And when this pandemic ends (hopefully and it has to, right?) we can rejoice together. Thank you for providing this lovely haven on the internet. With love and best wishes to you and your family.
Hugs,
CC

March 23, 2020 at 11:59 amI have been reading your blog for years, even before you married and had children. I almost never comment or reply on any blog. But I wanted to take the time to say “happy birthday featherfactor” and thanks for all the years you have been loyally posting. I appreciate your intelligence and insights as well as the levity that some of the posts add to my life. Take care of the featherfamily and God bless!

March 23, 2020 at 4:03 pmHappy 9th Blog Anniversary! Staying at home definitely makes people (me included considering I am a homebody) stir crazy, but we need to do it to save others. Lately, I read this virus get transmitted through the eyes so n95 mask isn’t enough for doctors and hospital workers. A face shield is needed.
Here’s to hoping that when we catch this virus, we recover quickly and not take up to 6 weeks to recover.
I look forward to your posts. I am definitely expanding my book reading to entertain myself and I enjoy your recommendations into genres that I would not have considered I subscribed to the Disney+ channel this week (about $6 a month subscription) and started watching the Mandolorian with the kids. I highly recommend! Baby Yoda is cute. The new Lion King movie is on it too.
Congrats on your blog anniversary and may have you more anniversaries to come!

March 23, 2020 at 4:26 pmThank you for your words! I found them so comforting because your thoughts are real but optimistic. When readers lack the words to describe what they are feeling right now, reading something insightful and reflective can really shift perspectives. Please keep writing and I’ll keep reading!

March 23, 2020 at 5:18 pmDearest Kat,
HAPPY, HAPPY Blogiversary! Lucky number 9! 😀 Thank you for keeping us updated and bringing such joy to our lives for the past 9 years! Thank you for taking the time through all your major life events, through children, through writing books, through everything – to be that lighthouse of hope for so many of us; a constant of positivity in such uncertain times. You bring an unfathomable amount of peace and comfort to me personally, but I am very confident to many, many of your readers.
We all love your posts – there is nothing to regret nor to be embarrassed by! Thank you for always posting and hope you and your family were able to celebrate this wonderful milestone you have achieved with this wonderful blog! I am so proud of you! 🙂
I hope your Mom is doing well and heeding the example you and your family are setting and not budging – and yes, one day in the future we will all look back on this time as transformative – though let us hope that it is far sooner than later.
Sending you a virtual jeroboam of your favorite beverage, a crateful of Ladurée Ispahans and lots of hugs!
Good luck on projects you are working on and can’t wait to read your next post!
Thank you for all you do!
xx

March 24, 2020 at 6:32 pmHappy blogiversary. I’m a fairly new reader. I’m finding blogging more relevant than ever. It reminds me of when I started my first (long removed) blog when my eldest was a newborn. I was experiencing something new and scary and yet so many others were going through it too.

March 26, 2020 at 3:17 amI accidentally discovered your blog years ago and have ever since enjoyed so much. So glad you didn’t delete nor stop doing this. English is not my mother tongue. Lots of time reading your posts is like expressing exactly what I want to say in English. Congratulations for the achievement!

March 27, 2020 at 10:09 pmHi, Happy Blog Anniversary! I missed this post when it came out, just saw you mention it on the current post. I have been reading for quite a few years and really enjoy your writing. It’s been nice to follow along as you have grown your family. I’ve learned a lot about luxury and other brands along the way – not usually in my budget, but I like to keep abreast of fashion etc. – and I also enjoy your reading recommendations. Thanks for keeping the blog going even though your life has got busier and perhaps more complicated – all the best, stay safe and well!

March 31, 2020 at 4:02 amKat – thank you for keeping going! You have created such a happy space and I enjoy all your new posts and I especially love re-reading old posts from you. In a time when I’m too rattled to even read much (Mantel is sitting next to me unopened) I still like coming to this happy corner of the internet. Our lives are so different but I love your perspective
