Sale PSA: A boiled cashmere pullover from Vince, now 25% off, a pretty metallic cocktail dress from Saloni, now 40% off (also love this longer gown, also 40% off!), and a mesh tote from Boyy, now under $420 (I am oddly drawn to this as is the case with quite a few bags from this brand)
Lately I’ve been thinking I need to shop my closet more. I always SAY I’m going to do this but it’s always different in execution, you know? In reality I just make a sweep of the existing clothes, going: “I should wear this” to various pieces gathering dust in my closet. Upon which I go back to wearing the same stuff as before. Having recently completed a big project I’ve now started on some spring cleaning and as such began to re-organize my closet – I was determined to find some items I’d “forgotten” about and place them back into regular rotation. To force myself to do this, I actually took out each of these items and put them front and center – Aad honestly, I’ve found some goodies I’m really excited about adding back into my regular rotation!
Here, sharing some items I recently re-found after some neglect:
Hermes Caducee Rock shawl: I found this too late and it is warm now. I will probably have to wait til the end of the year but I love this pattern and colorway so much, it’s so cool. And the smaller 100 size (I think which is supposed to be for “men”) but which I love as it easier to shove into a bag. If there’s cold days before spring I’ll be using this for sure!
Goyard Belvedere PM: I haven’t worn this in over a year and I’m not sure why. I guess sometimes I get into a bag “groove” and forget all my old favorites. The ridiculous thing is that I have been looking for a crossbody bag which can hold my phone in an outside pocket and has a zip inner pocket…uhh…I have one right here! Does that ever happen to you?
Manolo Blahnik heels. I bought these I think during one of my pregnancies. For some reason while pregnant I mostly bought fancy gowns and high heels and little evening bags – which is ridiculous since I barely went out BEFORE I had kids? So what gives? These Blahnik heels are a more practical exception. I really love them. So strappy! So easy to wear and comfortable! I love Manolo heels in general. And I love this shade of brown/tan, still easy to pair with black.
Balenciaga leather jacket: I have another leather jacket which I think is from Acne that I’ve been wearing more the last year. But why not this one? A great advantage of this classic Balenciaga (you can find them for less on The Real Real) is that it doesn’t have one of those big belts on the bottom that’s on most biker style leather jackets. Which I like a lot from a style perspective but I never actually buckle them and thus they tend to just flop and the buckle makes clanging sounds when I walk. Does anyone else know what I’m talking about??
Okay – now I challenge each of you. To go into your closets and physically pull out and place front and center some items which haven’t seen action in a while but which you used to love! Really, I think you’ll find some goodies…I hope….thoughts??

February 17, 2020 at 10:56 amI found some nice Joseph cashmere when I dug to the back of the closet. I tend to get in a bag rut too. You’ve inspired me to ‘go shopping’ in my house.

February 19, 2020 at 1:57 amHi Kat, a quick question here; How do you care for your leather jacket? Do you treat it the same way as you do with your bags? Or do you have a different method? I have heard that one should apply leather cream on leather apparel the same as shoes to keep it supple. I would love your take on it as your Balenciaga still has a lovely shine and looks great!
Thanks,
Suzanne.

February 19, 2020 at 2:09 pmOh my gosh I havent’ done anything at all! SHOULD I be doing something? If I did anything maybe I’d wipe it with lexol PH wipes which I also have for my bags?

February 21, 2020 at 10:32 pmHi Kat, so your response prompted me to do more research and to keep myself from going further down into the rabbit hole (haha!), here are a couple websites I found:

Let me know your thoughts!
Have a great weekend ahead.

February 20, 2020 at 9:46 amI have a personal goal this year to wear every item I own at least once (other than formal evening gowns). It’s a good way to figure out if you even want to own a piece anymore if you put it on and then immediately think “nah” to yourself!

February 20, 2020 at 8:55 pmThat’s a GREAT goal! I might share it, if you don’t mind!

February 23, 2020 at 11:18 amI don’t mind if you share at all! I think we fashion lovers all own so many clothes but it’s just too alluring to fall into the habit of reaching for the ones that are easy to style and comfortable to wear (or exciting and new!). Of course the dream is to have an entire wardrobe of clothes like that (HA) but inevitably you end up with mostly clothes that require some effort and intention and they get neglected. Also I’ve already found it’s a good strategy to identify holes in my wardrobe…the “I love this and I’d wear this if I had the right belt or shoes etc” feeling…the best thing is that I’m saving so much money on not buying clothes I can immediately turn around and buy the “missing” accessory (usually something pretty basic that I’ve never gotten around to) guilt-free! Lol WIN!
