Sale PSA: a great knit tunic from Free People, now 40% off, a great cropped “re”cashmere sweater from Everlane, now under $70, and a perfect (!!) white Paris Bombay bag from Hermes, now just $1000 (oh how I want this for myself).
1. This week, sharing a great jacket from The Frankie Shop.
It’s so chic! Exactly the kind of blazer I’ve been hunting for the transition to spring and in the perfect color too. The only thing holding me back is the sizing? As this is a real MODEL and she is in size XS so I am unclear how it will look on me, who is definitely not a MODEL.
2. An interesting interview, via the NY Times, with Bouchra Jarrar, the designer (who helmed Lanvin for about a year). It’s short but what I thought was interesting was this was a passion project, a collection of pieces she truly loves. I’ve always wondered with those big commercial collections, what percent of pieces a designer might not be super into but was forced to put out for revenues. What kind of toll does it take, to want to express yourself creatively but not have full control over the product?
3. A short little piece, via The Cut, on the ascent of sweaters. I LOVE sweaters. They are one of my favorite items to buy, along with handbags and coats.
4. Also enjoyed this piece, also from the NYT, about the inner workings of a pawn shop. Their interest rates (in NY) are less than I thought!
5. This week I read Three Daughters of Eve, by Elif Shafak.
I had actually bought this book on a whim last year because I liked the cover (which they’ve changed for paperback – boo!). I knew nothing about Shafak but liked the few pages I read and finally got around to it this week. I was pleasantly surprised to learn she is the best selling novelist in Turkey! AND the book, which is great, opens with a scene with a woman getting her faux- Hermes handbag snatched from her car. Though this is definitely not “light lit” – it’s a beautifully written, insightful novel about a woman in Istanbul. If you want to learn more about contemporary Turkey, if you want to read some fresh literary fiction, I recommend the Three Daughters of Eve

February 3, 2020 at 4:33 pmI love sweaters too! It is such a pity that I can no longer justifiably buy fun, trendy sweaters for a few more years!
