Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A pretty choker/draped necklace from Madewell, now 50% off, short boots from Ugg, now under $100, and a cashmere cocoon sweater, now under $70 from Uniqlo (I love this cardigan as well!). Ahh, and an Etoupe Lindy 26, for a pretty good price on Fashionphile!

For the next five days, Nordstrom also has a great deal where if you spend $500, you get another $125 in gift cards (or $150/$30, $300/$60, wow wow wow has the retail landscape changed)

Also, Net-A-Porter has 25% some items: my picks are this gorgeous brown Nanushka coat, these snake effect sandals from By Far, and this jumpsuit from The Frankie Shop.

1. On my list – this Isabel Marant belt.

A belt like his has been on my list for quite a while! I have purchased all sorts of trapeze (aka tent like) dresses and tops lately, and while I love being free flowing and loose, sometimes is nice to have a belt option. I love the look of leather belts but the buckle never sits right on me – this is a great option. Deciding between black and tan.

2. Sharing this short article, via the Washingtonian, about sleeping apart. I did an Instagram Story months ago about buying snore strips to prevent my husband from snoring (spoiler: they didn’t work for me). And I still get so many messages from people suffering from snoring spouses! I don’t think sleeping apart is a big deal at all, isn’t it what rich British people do?

3. A truly fascinating piece, via Elle, on a former popular blogger and what happened to her – The Education of Natalie Jean. I’ve been blogging for close to a decade now and always knew I could never be a “big” blogger. Not that I don’t admire it, because I truly do, it is sooo much more work than people think, but I don’t have the sort of personality to make it work. I do think it can be soul crushing.

4. An interesting article, via The NY Times, about financial security and envying others and their financial fitness, when maybe their wealth isn’t all self earned.

5. This week, I’m reading Evicted, by Matthew Desmond.

I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book. I’ve had it for probably a year. The book follows multiple families on/below the poverty line (As well as a landlord) in Milwaukee as they try to keep and maintain their housing – there were so many things, around the conversation about poverty and housing, that I’m ashamed I didn’t know more about. And it is a genuinely fascinating read as well. It’s so well written, so engaging, and you come out of it having learned a ton. To me, that’s the perfect non-fiction. Highly, highly recommend Evicted.

Interesting article about Natalie. I was never a regular reader…I came across her blog every now and then. She always seemed a bit odd…maybe that article explained some of the reasons why…

Have your husband try the Good Night snore solution. It’s a mouth piece, very easy to use, and it virtually eliminated snoring in my household. Plus no more dry mouth overnight, which his dentist noticed right away.

Loved the Natalie article. I’m a bit older so the mommy blogger trend seams odd. Those children grow up, go to school and have opinions very soon. Really enjoy yours, hope you don’t feel stressed out by it?

Hi Kat, I don’t actually have Instagram so I can’t comment there, but can you share the name of the children’s book where there’s English and Chinese writing? Am looking for something like this for my (hopefully) bilingual children.

    Thanks so much!

Yes! It is by Habbi Habbi but actually I have quite a few English/Chinese books, should I do a post? I’ve gotten quite a few requests!

I find it interesting that I couldn’t find a way to comment comfortably on the Times article regarding inherited money vs earned money. Not only that, but I didn’t even feel comfortable using my name.

My husband just sent me the NYT personal finance article this week. It definitely resonated with me – money is a sensitive topic. With a few close friends I’d probably happily share the ways we get help if they expressed stress or frustration about the cost of certain things, but certainly not with most friends.
