1. My item of the week? This 100% merino wool midi dress, from Uniqlo, at a great price.
I love Uniqlo! Actually a lot of my favorite cold season items are from them. Since I started trying to buy all natural fibers however, I’ve been thwarted on many occasions because Uniqlo does tend to use a lot of synthetics – so I was very happy to see that this dress is 100% merino! Which accounts for its higher (for Uniqlo) price. I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect long sleeved midi winter dress so might try this out – my only qualm is that I wish it was more of a straight skirt? But I think for material/quality this can’t be beat.
2. Had to post this oldie but goodie from Vanity Fair, about Sally Quinn. My God! Have I shared this before? I tried to look but couldn’t find it.
3. Also sharing this piece, via The NY Times, on How To Buy Clothes That Last. I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic lately. Well, for years, really…it’s so hard to have that balance.
4. Finance/banking nerds (I know you are out there) will likely enjoy this this piece, via ProPublica, on DE Shaw the man. Wow! I feel like several TV show characters have been inspired by him, no?
5. This week, I’m reading The Feather Thief, by Kirk Wallace Johnson.
This is really good (so far!). A kind of literary “true crime” though I should be up front that the crime is the thievery of some valuable feathers/pelts from a museum – but the story totally draws you in and the writing is great. I’m about halfway through and besides just being a fascinating true story, the book also really makes you think about the damage humans are doing to the earth and how we might treat nature better, given all that its given us. A great read, thought provoking, and definitely relevant for the times. Highly recommend The Feather Thief.

October 11, 2019 at 1:00 pmI love the store. I have been shopping there since 2001 in Japan. I brought the majority of my fall wardrobe this year from the store. Like you, I stay away from synthetics. On the weekends, I work as a cosmetologist and have to wear black. I buy a lot of my graphic tees from there to wear in the salon.

October 13, 2019 at 4:50 pmI really want to try some of Uniqlo’s sweater dresses but I am very petite and think they would overwhelm me. Curious to know if it works out for you.
