Sale PSA: A pretty sheer poncho from Eileen Fisher, now 50% off, simple and chic linen slipdress from Reformation, now $77, Gucci cat eye sunglasses, now 40% off, and great workout/hiking shorts from Zella, now $33
1. This week, sharing this pretty dress, from Faithfull.
I really like this! And the price is reasonable, even at full price! I’ve been passively searching for the perfect millennial pink floral dress and think this might be it – total side note but I’m also searching for the perfect cropped scoop/vneck sheer knit sweater? If anyone has any leads?
2. Sharing this piece, via the WSJ, about how being a “partner” at a law firm isn’t what it used to be. I love gossipy law firm/law degree related articles. A bunch of you are lawyers and I know you’ve all already read this one.
3. Posting this detailed piece covering the Southampton home of our lady of perfection, Lauren Santo Domingo, as covered in Vogue. Ugh! Is it insensitive for me to say that I wish more rich people had taste? For me to admire?? Who else is like her that I can style stalk?
4. A great piece from the NYT about the closure of Barney’s, Dean & Deluca, and the fall of “bohemian consumerism”.
5. This week I read Then She Was Gone, by Lisa Jewell.
This was an interesting read for me. I was really loving it for about the first 60% of the book. Like, REALLY loving it. And then in the last 40%, it was still good, but the plot kind of went a place where I felt a little uneasy. But that’s a personal preference thing, and I still ended up having to read until I finished at 3 AM, and so I wanted to share. The writing, the plot, the pacing – all were extremely excellent. If you like thrillers and don’t mind the macabre, I recommend Then She Was Gone.

August 16, 2019 at 7:01 pmHi Kat, first time poster. Long time reader. I have read a few Lisa Jewell books and as someone with an Asian background I was really dismayed by some of the casual racism in a couple of her books and that her editor let it go through. In her book ‘before I met you’ she has a truly nasty caricature of an East Asian female character and in another book she uses the term ‘Chinese whispers’. I was reading through her books and stopped after that. It really soured me on her. There are so many good writers who deserve more readers. I would recommend Clare Macintosh, especially her debut novel, I Let You Go. Amor Towles. Kathy Wang 😉

August 17, 2019 at 2:12 pmWOW thank you for alerting me to this. That is so disappointing! I won’t read anymore. I admire Amor Towles greatly and will add Clare Macintosh to my list. Thank you for commenting and your kind words 🙂

August 17, 2019 at 6:51 pmAbout that cute little print dress by Faithful: if I still had the legs to wear that, I’d buy at least 7 of them and wear one daily for the rest of the summer. I’d gladly use those for my daily uniform, in lieu of the all black “uniform” referred to in the August 9th post. I’m not kidding when I say, “wear those cute little things while you can…….wear them often….and enjoy every minute of it.
Don’t get me wrong, I love being older…..and it certainly has its advantages. But there are some fashion choices that are no longer available to me that I miss.
