Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A great zebra print midi dress from Faithfull, now 40% off, linen jogger pants from Caslon, now $36, and easy linen shorts from Uniqlo, now under $10 (those looking for easy linen blend shorts options – I also recommend these, I’ve worn them a LOT over two summers and they still look great. And most only $12!)

1. This week: sharing the gorgeous “Hot Lips 2” lipstick, from Charlotte Tillbury.

I will openly admit that I really just want this lipstick for the packaging. It’s so gorgeous!! I love almost every single one but especially the leopard print although I think my first buy will be In Love With Olivia. The only thing terrible is the price. Dear lord. For some reason it’s cheaper on Net-A-Porter but sold out in a ton of colors (probably for this reason), but check if you’re interested there first, link here.

2. Sharing this piece, via Fast Company, about wearing the same outfit everyday. I had colleagues who did this. I probably only noticed after close to a year. And just thought they had a dozen of the same item, like Steve Jobs.

3. Loved this article, via The NY Times, about how women in Japan are rejecting marriage. I don’t know why but I LOVE these articles. All the quotes are perfection! I’m rooting for all of them! And for the men to do some more housework and childcare, seriously.

4. Another NY Times piece, about the fall of Barney’s. I was sad to hear this. I do hope there’s a comeback as Friedman mentions.

5. This week I read Ask Again, Yes, by Mary Beth Keane.

In short: I really enjoyed this one! I actually read a lot of contemporary novels because it is my favorite genre, but lately I haven’t found anything that satisfies. There’s been a few that I’ve started that I had to put down. But this one, following two next door neighbors and their families over a generation of time, was really good. And beautifully written too. If you like contemporary novels, especially about multi-generational families, I highly recommend Ask Again, Yes.

Thank you for the Drunk Elephant cream recommendation Kat. I have been using it for a week and I see results! Those fine lines are diminishing and my skin looks firmer. I never heard of this cream until you mentioned it. So thank you!

Excited to try the Paula’s choice from the NAS. Looking forward to seeing my pores shrink per the reviews.

I sympathize with you on the NYT’s Japanese women article. I think you have it tough. Perhaps you are married to an executive that could not help out with simple household duties and have nonretired or far away mother and mother in law. Hang in there. When your kids turn 6, they can do things for themselves. That is, they can bathe themselves, brush their own teeth, help out with household chores like washing dishes despite it being slow and messy, do their own homework independently. It does get easier. If you homeschool them early on, then you have the perk of hearing good stuff about your kid from teachers, versus your kid is lagging behind in a certain subject and requires more help from you the parent.

I enjoyed the baby years despite the diaper changes. It was amusing to see them coo and do their first everything. Once they start talking, they don’t stop! A friend of mine advised me to enjoy the nonspeaking years, and she was right. And fights…they do get worse as they get older if they have siblings no matter what the age gap is. Best you can do is still back and have them figure it out until they get physical – then you surely have to step in.

Thank you for sharing the articles. You are right, the leopard Charlotte Tilbury case is gorgeous.

    Have a great weekend!

I’m intrigued with wearing ‘uniform’ on a daily basis article. I love buying multiples because once the material and fit meets my requirement, I’m happy. It would be a challenge for me to stick to one colour though. Might try out wearing the same outfit to work next week! 😉

Many of us are suckers for packaging…love those CT lipsticks but I can’t get hold of that brand over here….darn!

Just read an article on Southern China Morning Post that many Chinese women prefer to stay single for many reasons too. I guess the marriage has evolved over the decades and the society views it differently today. I can imagine more and more singles in the future and a shrinking world population.

I loved the article about uniform dressing. I’ve been in a uniform of sorts for some time. (Pants & a tunic). It continues to work for me. I once thought about wearing all navy, as I don’t look good with black next to my skin. But I quickly learned that not all navy’s are created equally and some just don’t play well together. I’m retired, so I could do it, but I guess it’s just a tad bit too restrictive for me. If I did look good in black, I’m pretty sure I’d have a largely black wardrobe, although blacks don’t always look good together either. Still, I find it intriguing.
