Sale PSA: Great ankle boots from Gianvito Rossi, now 30% off, a gorgeous pleated skirt from Vince, now 40% off, the classic “Eyes” backpack from Anya Hindmarch, now $385, and a beautiful silk mini dress from Ulla Johnson, now 40% off.
1. This week, sharing these wonderful sandals (on sale!), from Gianvito Rossi.
I admit that 30% off is not my preferred sale amount. I would like more, much more! But these are so flattering that I’m tempted; they are a classic silhouette too, nothing trendy. They are also available on Net-A-Porter, but nearly entirely sold out. I just wish they had a slightly lower heel but then I suppose they wouldn’t be so sexy!
2. A fascinating article via GQ: The Man Who Wouldn’t Die.
3. Really liked this piece, via the WSJ on Eileen Fisher: There Are Too Many Clothes In The World. Yeah there are, right?
4. This piece, via NPR, about why suburban moms might be delivering your groceries made me think – I think the women in the article are incredible, but I wish there were more options for moms wanting to return part time/full time to the workforce.
5. This week, I’m reading The Path To Power, by Robert Caro.
So I had started this a long time ago, and never finished – and then over the years (I’m being honest here) got it into my head that it was boring. I mean…a multi-volume biography of Lyndon Johnson? I’ve been going through my book collection though, and saw this and thought I’d give it another try…and I honestly can’t remember why I found it boring! Johnson is such a fascinating character and Caro is a master, while never making himself difficult to understand. Especially in today’s political climate, where you feel that things are just…insane, it’s interesting to read about other power hungry figures in history. I highly recommend The Path To Power for any history lover.

May 31, 2019 at 12:53 pmCaro was one of Conan’s recent podcast guests! I put The Path To Power on my library queue after listening to it. I really enjoyed the discussion (Conan is a history buff and just adores Caro; it was also interesting to hear how Caro was able to gather the information included in the bio), if you’d like to try the episode.
