Weekend Update

1. As mentioned above – it’s finally designer sale season. Which you likely know from the deluge of emails in your inbox. Prices are actually really good on some items! Like this Tibi cardigan below, which is now $175.

I like Tibi but rarely purchase their items because the prices are quite high. But lately I’ve seen full prices come down a bit on quite a few designers, maybe because the finally realized there’s only so many brands that can command crazy prices for clothes! And then on sale, the prices get even better. I love the sunny yellow of this cardigan and the unique cut.

2. This long weekend, start with this article, via Town & Country, about Joss Sackler, yes one of those Sacklers. What do we think?

3. A lovely article, via The NY Times, about the joys of vanity in senior citizens. This actually made me want to try more. I’ve been leaving the house in some pretty shameful outfits (especially for preschool pickup).

4. A wonderful piece, written by the always excellent Lydia Kiesling, A Mother’s Clock.

5. This week, I’m reading Katherine, by Anya Seton.

I’ve actually owned this book for years. I think more than a decade? I started it and then stopped right away and for some reason convinced myself it was boring. But I picked it up earlier this week and of course…I loved it. This book is amazing, especially if you’re a fan of English history (I am). And it’s a love story. I rarely read love stories these days. But when you come across a good one, there’s almost nothing better. I highly recommend Katherine by Anya Seton. So happy with this one, likely one of my favorites of the year.

I was especially interested in the article on the vanity of seniors. My mother spent the last 20 years of her life in an upscale residence similar to those described in the article. One of the things it provided her with was daily exposure to some very serious senior fashionistas. Everyone dressed for both lunches and dinners, and I was amazed to see my mother step up her fashion game. Suddenly, she “needed” more St. John knits….which I found both hilarious and fabulous at the same time. It was really good for her and probably one of the things that kept her going until she was 93.

        Hi Kat!
Sometimes, when I visited, I felt like I was at a Nancy Reagan lookalike convention. After meals, they tended to go back to their condos and change into leisure wear. But they were happy as clams when they dressed up.

The Sackler article…OMG. That woman’s entire everything is a facepalm. YIKES. Between this one and Mnuchin’s wife, there’s a whole lot of obliviousness meets I-don’t-even-know-what-to-call it.
My parents are in their ’70s, and I find their sartorial choices more formal and dressy than they were when I was a child.
LOVE Diane W’s mum being all about the St John. I absolutely STAN this.

The slacker family article; while I don’t support them and she should just be quiet, I find it weird that we are placing all the blame on this family. Scapegoat for failures by a larger group of people: prescribers, Federal/state drug regulators, patients. If you take the CDC data (on a superficial level) 400k deaths over 2 decades. Twenty years of this crap and now people are blaming anything they can throw a dart at. At the end of the day, everyone should take responsibility, from drug makers to just us common people.

I also think it’s phony for these non-profits to not accept money NOW. After receiving millions of dollars, or are unwilling to return money not spent or removing their names. What’s up with that?! Don’t pretend. Ok rant over
