I really love these! Reasonably (for designer) priced. Such a simple design that will age well. A decent but not too high heel. I’m just deciding which color – does anybody have experience with the brand?
2. My son is in his first year of preschool – I had no idea about this world before. Sharing this article, via LA Mag about a rivalry between two elite LA pre-schools. Does this sound familiar to you? I love pre-school stories.
3. My favorite piece this week is this interview, via The Hollywood Reporter, with Oprah. She is incredible. There is so much to learn from her here.
4. And finally, my longer, “reserve at least half an hour to absorb” true crime recommendation this excellent piece, via The Cut – The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence.
5. This week, I haven’t finished my book – I’m in the middle of I, Claudius, by Robert Graves.
I’ve always had a problem with historical fiction set in the Roman Empire – I always think I’ll love it but I have a problem with all of the characters and I can’t keep them straight. I, Claudius has sort of this issue but the narrator, Claudius, is such a charming and witty observer on Roman life and the various emperors that I’ve gone further than I would have – I have to admit I’m proceeding at a slower pace than usual though. Normally I don’t recommend books I haven’t finished but I do think if you DO love historical fiction and liked books like The First Man In Rome then I feel comfortable wholeheartedly recommending I, Claudius – I wonder if I should just watch the old TV show, any of you know?

May 3, 2019 at 1:33 pmI read I, Claudius, the sequel Claudius the God and watched the tv series when I was about 9, and I’m pretty sure they shaped my world view. Now I give people copies of I, Claudius as a friendship token and also secretly as a litmus test.

And I just want you to know, I don’t read so many blogs anymore but I look forward to your Friday posts. I love the reading recommendations. Also I’ve been looking at those By Far sandals for awhile now but my toenails are a mess (I was treated for breast cancer which wreaks havoc on the toenails). I can’t wait to be able to wear such a lovely strappy sandal!

May 7, 2019 at 4:38 pmI loved ‘I, Claudius’ but i think it’s a little heavier read than Colleen Mccullough, maybe? BBC show is soooo old:) It’s almost like watching a play recorded for TV( or, maybe, that’s what it was). I liked books by Alberto Angela, those are not really historical fiction but definitely let you feel the times:) And, of course, the mystery books set in ancient Rome!
