Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Olive wide leg pants from Madewell, now $55, colorblock espadrilles from Tory Burch, now up to 33% off (I like the one with the birds, the perfect long sleeved tee from L’Agence, now $32, and a striped cashmere crew from Everlane, now just $70.

1. It has been so hot in the Bay Area lately (like up to 90F! And all the kids want to do is play outside!) that the other day I went shopping for some more hats. I wear hats all the time in the summer and I like to rotate them so none of them get too gross – my latest pickup is this very nice one from Madewell.

Nice light material, big enough for my abnormally giant head, a nice price. Recommended and perfect for hot weather!

PS: My favorite baseball cap is from Everlane and I was so upset that it is no longer available, I hope they bring it back this summer.

2. Am interested in your thoughts on this piece, via The Atlantic, about how the “Influencer/Instagram Aesthetic is Over.” Do we believe? To be honest I’ve been going on IG less and less – I guess I’ve maxed out on the accounts that are interesting to me. I’d actually like to go back to the days of blogs (yes a totally self serving statement) – but sometimes, I just need a little more.

3. A very interesting interview between Vanessa Friedman and Andrew Rosen, the CEO of Theory. Interesting reading for fashion fans. ‘

4. Sharing this piece, via The Cut, about how Audrey Gelman of The Wing gets things done. Did you know that she’s the inspiration for Marnie from Girls? I wish there were a few more seasons of Girls. I like Lena Dunham.

5. This week I finished the book Miracle Creek, by Angie Kim.

In short – I loved this. It’s a sort of “whodunnit” mystery set in a small community outside of DC but this book is so much more than that – the main question being, when an oxygen chamber used to treat kids with autism (amongst a myriad of other things) explodes, who is responsible for the tragedy? The book dips into a lot of topics – motherhood, the Korean American experience, how we treat learning disabilities, the toll a diagnosis can have a family, and so much more – it’s also got beautiful language and is a page turner to boot. Really impressed and highly recommended. If you like thrillers/mysteries or just good writing, check out Miracle Creek.

Two comments – I just finished Miracle Creek as well – it did not end as I’d assumed but I did enjoy it. Also ordered the olive pants from Nordstrom earlier this week. They arrived and are way, way too thick and stiff. I do not recommend them. Good weekend to you.

Thank you for the feedback! Yes the ending wasn’t what I expected. I actually had to skip it and come back, just because it made me too sad the first round.
