1. One of my favorite practical items – these cashmere beanies, which are now on sale for under $30.
I have probably three of these, in black and gray – it’s really cold (for the Bay Area) right now, and so I always want to have a hat with me, just in case. These are perfect for tucking into your bag/backpack as I do – the cashmere is soft and the price is right, especially on sale. Keep warm out there everyone!
2. I’ve been following the story of the Gupta family for some time – this is a great primer on the rise and fall of one of South Africa’s wealthiest families, via The NY Times.
3. A great piece on Sofia Coppola from the WSJ. That Cartier Cactus ring! The silk pajamas! Caftans! She is awesome as always.
4. Sharing this perfect (as in really bad and witty) restaurant review of Bluebird, via The NY Times – What If Brexit Were A Restaurant? It is perfect.
5. This week, I read Red Dragon, by Thomas Harris.
Okay, so this was a re-read. I am a huge Thomas Harris fan (The Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite books), and I was in the mood for a really well written thriller so I decided to go back to this old favorite. Oh God was it so creepy. Even worse than I remembered but in the best way. If you need a thriller and don’t mind being a little terrified at night – I highly recommend you check out Red Dragon.

Have you read Where the Crawdads Sing? Hauntingly beautiful. My favorite of 2018.

January 21, 2019 at 10:04 pmI’m from Botswana, living in US for the last 20 years, but i still follow South African politics closely. The Gupta family has been notorious for years but definitely to a local audience. Seeing this article in The NY Times is quite surprising and i cant wait to read it!
