1. This week, an announcement for leopard coat fans that this great one (and one of the best non-vintage options I’ve found) is back in stock, via Stand:
This print is one of the best I’ve seen – fun without being too wacky and I like that there is some variation in the background color from white to tan. Also, the price is reasonable and best of all, the model is wearing this is a size 36 and it goes down to size 32 so petite ladies give it a shot! I would myself but I have two leopard outerwear pieces and I really don’t need a third.
2. Girl power read of the week, via Glamour – Now That I’m Divorced, I’m Never Making Dinner For A Man Again. Kind of loved this.
3. What do you think of this marketing prank done by Payless Shoes, of “tricking” people into thinking its shoes were designer goods, priced at around $500, as outlined in The Washington Post?
4. I’ve been meaning to share this for some time – this creepy article, via The Cut, about the “haunting” of a house in New Jersey.
5. This week, I’m reading Spinning Silver, by Naomi Novik.
This isn’t the sort of book I normally read – I’m not a “fantasy” reader (with the exception of the OG GRRM and a few others) and to be honest I usually like the sort of books with dreary covers that promise at some sort of family psychosis, and not fairy tales and such. I decided to give this a try at the recommendation of a bookseller and have not been able to put it down. Really, really good – based on the cover this almost seemed young adult to me but believe me that it is not, supposedly loosely based on the tale of Rumpelstiltskin but really I couldn’t find much similar – this is a tale all its own. Really really good. The sort of book to get lost in (and the writing is excellent). I highly recommend Spinning Silver.

December 21, 2018 at 5:08 pmI heard about the payless shoe stunt and found myself questioning the validity of their “customers” feedback. As a designer shoe hoarder, I find it hard to believe a true shoe consumer would be fooled by mass produced low end produced footwear. Regardless of the name, location or design, mass production and marginal quality stand out.

December 21, 2018 at 10:30 pmI agree with Dawn. Amazed people could be fooled so easily in the Payless stunt. I think genuine designer shoes have traits that are very obvious to those who have spent time wearing them — or even just shopping for them!
Katherine, I’m going to give that book a try! I am NOT a fantasy reader, but I’m a voracious reader who enjoys some diversity in what she reads from time to time. 🙂 And boy, do thousands of readers rate Spinning Silver very highly on Goodreads! I appreciate the fact that you don’t just stick with one genre; you really do read and recommend different types of books.
That “haunted” house story was creepy and frustrating. I struggle with how this person wasn’t found…so many resources were thrown at the situation. I feel so sad for the family. 🙁
Have a wonderful Christmas with your husband and little ones!

December 22, 2018 at 10:09 pmNaomi Novik is great! She is a wonderful writer. I have Spinning Silver sitting on my desk at home waiting to be read. She also writes some very fine fan fiction under Astolat at AO3.
I kind of agree about the difficulty believing in the Payless stunt, except that I feel like I have seen some pretty terrible high end merchandise here and there.
Wishing you a great holiday. Thank you for your consistently interesting and entertaining writing.
