Today I’m sharing some of my favorite gift ideas for those loved ones (or yourself) in your life. I originally didn’t think I was going to do a gifting post this year, simply because I think that the internet has a zillion already, but I was quite pleased with some of the gifts I found this year and wanted to share! For all of the items below, I wanted them to meet certain criteria – that they be unique (ish), something that I myself would like, and also not be the sort of item to go on super clearance right after the holidays. There’s a range of prices, though everything is quite reasonable (in my opinion) with the exception of one Hermes goodie that I just had to include! Enjoy!
Anthropologie Petal Mug, $10. These are very cute and useful too. I bought five as a group gift recently and they were a big hit. I think people always like initialized/monogrammed items. Gorgeous!
By the way, if you’re looking for another initialed item – I also love these bistro style coasters ($14). I always need coasters.
Diptyque Exquisite Almond Candle, $72. I vowed I wouldn’t include Diptyque this year. Not because Diptyque is bad, but simply because I always include them and wanted to do something else. But then I came across this new holiday offering! And it is almond! A mix of sweet almond paste and smoke! I had to include.
Everlane Waffle Knit Cashmere Crew, $150. This is my favorite cashmere item from Everlane and certainly my favorite affordable cashmere overall. So lux feeling with the waffle knit, which also makes it feel more cozy (in my opinion). I love the little slit on the bottom and overall it looks like a ~$400-$500 sweater.
Madewell Canvas Tote, $5. Super cute with some 90’s flair in the mix. What’s not to love? You can put a bottle of wine, flowers, etc inside. Better than gift wrap and reusable, too.
Hermes “Awooooo” Cashmere/Silk Shawl, $750. Had to include this because I love it so much. A men’s shawl (but I love it for women) by one of my favorite artists, Alice Shirley. How gorgeous is the design? And it comes in a lot of beautiful colorways, and is a little smaller than the women’s shawl size (100cm vs 140cm), this accounting for the “savings” in the price.
Uniqlo Compact Down Jacket, $60. Everyone I have recommended/given this jacket to has loved it. Really! So useful, chic, light – just something you can even keep in your car or your office, to have on hand for when you need to look chic. And isn’t it? It even has pockets! Ugh now I want another one. Must control myself.
Calvin and Hobbes Complete Box Set, $80. I really love this set and the comics and this is one of my favorite gifts to give. I actually prefer giving the hardcover version but I have received complaints about its weight so moved to this softcover version. Still super gorgeous! And also, if you are looking for an overall book recommendation, check out my weekend updates but I am also going to try to do a big book post of favorites by the end of the year. I’m trying!
I’d love to hear some of the gifts you’ll be giving this year!

December 3, 2018 at 10:33 amI just bought the “Flower Color Guide” from Putnam & Putnam for a someone who works in art conservation and history. I’m quite pleased with myself.
The Calvin and Hobbes set is such a fantastic idea!

December 3, 2018 at 7:55 pmI Love Uniqlo! I’ll check out the jacket when I go next Friday. I usually give out little gifts. This year I’m giving out Chanel tinted lip balms in medium. They are only $20 and moisturizing. Also, little fragrance roller ball sets from Macy’s. This year DK Cashmere Mist and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue.

December 3, 2018 at 11:57 pmMy favorite gifts are for children. I don’t have children of my own but I am close to my great nieces and the children and grandchildren of close friends. For very young children, I try to stick to the concept of giving: “something to wear, something to read, something you want & something you need” as they tend to make few, if any, requests and are happy with simpler gifts.
For children who are becoming young adults, I find they are pretty specific in what they prefer. I’m fine giving teens and older kids money if that’s what they request, but it really ‘jacks up’ my passion for gift wrapping when all I have to work with is an envelope. My very favorite gift would be a book series for a child who loves to read. I’ve only run into that request once, so far.
No matter what I plan to give, I always clear it with the parents.
If anyone here has a serious reader, I’d recommend Haywood Hill subscription service. I’m waiting until my great nieces are older (at their parents’ request) to purchase subscriptions for each of them.
