1. This dress! I’m really into it. I love it very, very much.
I really adore a good mixed print, especially on a dress – saves me the trouble of attempting to do such on my own, which I”m always worried I didn’t pull off properly. This Rixo dress combines two prints but in my favorite black/white combo which makes it easy to do outerwear on top and I love the midi length. A winner!
2. Will you please indulge me in some shameless (additional) self-promotion? BuzzFeed Books just launched a book club and my novel is the inaugural pick and so I really, really had to share. And there is an exclusive excerpt (with some amazing illustrations) if you read further on in the article. Thank you for your support!
3. A great profile of Law Roach, who in my opinion is one of the best stylists today, via The Guardian. Do you love him? I do. He seems like such a hard worker, too.
4. Remember when Brad Pitt was supposed to have been dating Neri Oxman? You don’t? Clearly you don’t have the same priorities as me, which is to indulge as much celebrity gossip as possible, but yes I know who Neri Oxman is and thus was very interested to read this profile of her, via The NY Times – Who Is Neri Oxman?
5. I thought about whether or not to share this Atlantic profile on Heidi Cruz, simply because I detest her husband, but in the end I just thought it was so thought provoking, on a variety of levels – a wife’s career versus her husband’s, the fights and battles they’ve had in private, whether this was really a profile or if she was just being “on”. And there’s the larger question about the timing of the article, right before the midterms, that this would be the one time Heidi Cruz decides to open up and share some previously never discussed tidbits from her life. It just brings to mind such a fascinating and complex person. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
6. This week I read The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock, by Imogen Hermes Gowar.
First of all the cover is gorgeous, and I always love a good book about Victorian London, and especially when prostitutes are involved (I just think they were the most interesting people of the period). So of course I was going to read this book, which involves a merchant, a mermaid, and a “courtesan” – and I was very, very happy! The writing was gorgeous but not too flowery, and the story fascinating (though I should say that the book can move at a slightly slower pace). If you liked books like The Crimson Petal and the White, or Slammerkin, I’d highly recommend The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock.

October 20, 2018 at 3:26 pmI just read that same book last week! I have to say I was holding my breath towards the end hoping they’d make the smart decision and not have the book end all in despair.
Congrats on the book club pick!
