1. Yes it’s fall boot time. And are these not a very beautiful and warm pair of combat boots?
Like many of you I love MTV’s Daria, so I have always had a fondness for combat boots. I love these Kenzo ones because of the little heel and the sleekness and the all black and even more because there is a bit of shearling. I even think that because they aren’t so high, they wont’ be so bad on us who are leg height challenged (but maybe I’m just kidding myself). And they’re a nice price with the Shopbop discount.
You can also get them without the shearling here, I just shared the shearling because it’s not much more. But both are gorgeous!
2. Thank you to A.S., for sharing this article about the shadow production economy behind many of the world’s largest luxury goods. It made me quite furious actually given the prices that are charged. When you consider how much money is frittered away on huge extravaganzas and advertising and whatever else then you consider the woman working in her apartment for dollars a day…
3. A really interesting article, via the WSJ, about the art world’s newest star and what she’s doing to hold on. I love articles about the contemporary art market and how crazy and subjective it is. I think her art is so interesting and honestly gorgeous but what do I know about the value of art?
4. Are any of you following the story about the prostitution ring bust in New York? This NY Times story has a good overview. The whole things reminds me so much of The Force.
5. This week I read, The Rules Do Not Apply, by Ariel Levy.
This memoir has been on my to read list for a while and I finally got around to it. Ariel Levy suffered a terrible tragedy in a hotel room in Mongolia and this is the story of her life before, during, and after that moment. It was moving, beautifully written, and full of insight. If you like memoir, and beautiful writing, I highly recommend The Rules Do Not Apply.

October 1, 2018 at 8:01 amThanks so much for the link to the shadow economy article – I’m just as upset as you are. Can’t believe this has been a secret for so long. Just finished the Jho Low book, such a disturb yet engrossing read…

October 4, 2018 at 1:47 pmKatherine, do you remember that Dana Thomas book? The story about the shadow economy reminds me of this. I don’t know how true this is, I heard that a lot of these luxury items are being made in the US Penitentiary system by the incarcerated.
