I have been indulging in a lot of stress shopping lately. Like, a lot. It’s been very bad but I’ve had a lot to manage so I’m being nice to myself right now. Although I’ve definitely had a few duds, I’ve also had a few winners, so here are some to share:
Theory Clairene coat. Finally! I’ve wanted this jacket for ages, bought one a year back, returned cause of the color, and finally a good friend put me out of my misery and sent this. And of course I love it – the classic color (very reminiscent of Max Mara), the soft fabric, the perfect cut. It’s that rare length where it’s a great oversized jacket for anyone taller, and a perfect mini coat for anybody shorter (aka me). And even the sleeves aren’t too long (thanks J!).
Two caveats: The first is the price – it’s very similar stylistically to the J.Crew sweater blazer (but longer), but of course, much more expensive. However, it is also much warmer, a thicker, more high quality fabric and comes in great colors.
The second is the arms – I found the arms to be perfect to a wee bit tight, and if you want to layer a sweater under the jacket, I might advise sizing up. To me, due to the lack of buttons, this is more a “fall season, wear over a t-shirt” sort of garment. Which is how I wear my coats most of the time anyway.
Glossier Boy Brow/Glossier Cloud Paint: I finally tried these two products. I actually really like both of them. Boy Brow, because I have super long Chinese grandpa brows and am always having to cut them and then I cut too much. With Boy, I just sweep them and they stay in place. I bought brown to have a softer look, and am happy with the color, more soft than black without standing out. I was a little alarmed by the small size of the tube. I’ll update how long it lasts.
For the Cloud Paint – well I really wanted to try the Boy Brow and I wanted free shipping. And I like cream blush. This one is no exception. Super easy to put on. Seems to last okay, but I’m not at that stage in life where I “refresh” my makeup anyway anytime during the day. I bought Beam, a color I think would be universally flattering on almost anybody.
Madewell Marco Demi Boots ($75): I admit I bought these because of the price ($75). Madewell denim is usually quite a bit more expensive, like almost double, and plus I love my other pairs of Madewell demi boots. These jeans are quite nice – soft, fit true to size for Madewell (24P for me). There’s nothing particularly “special” about them in terms of the rinse/cut but sometimes you just want a plain pair of jeans, you know? And I always find Madewell to have great quality denim. A nice buy for the price.
By the way, shoes are the Everlane Day Mule which are now on sale for 30% off (yes, I will raise my hand and say that I always select the cheapest price on Everlane’s “choose your price” option). Super comfortable slip ons that I think look great with pants.
Everlane Shirtdress ($110): I have a thing for shirtdresses. I have a thing for dots. I have a thing for open collars. Thus this was a natural and very happy combination. Was very happy to find this silk shirtdress at a reasonable price however I have to say that it is meant to be a loose garment and they mean it. I love trapeze/big dresses and even I felt that this required a belt, even in size 00. But a super cute and versatile item that can be worn on the weekend and to work. Size down. Shoes are the ever useful Marmont pump.
What have you added lately?

September 4, 2018 at 8:47 pmI’ve been trying to practice shopping abstinence. With mixed results. I’ve added a couple of EF tunics. Going to add hiking boots from REI….although no hiking will be involved. They’re a throwback to my college hippie days. If I were younger, this would be a mid-life crisis……

September 5, 2018 at 9:04 amI wish I had bought the Boy Brow in brown. The black is a little too harsh for me.
I haven’t bought any clothes recently since I’ve been traveling, but I see a ton of swimwear on sale, so that might just be my chance to replace a suit or two.

September 12, 2018 at 6:31 pmThe Everyone pieces look so versatile and the dress luckily doesn’t look overbearing. Ooh your classic Alhambra necklace is amazing. How many motifs is it? I recently saw a Hermes Farandole necklace at a discount and was contemplating it, but wasn’t sure a sterling silver necklace was worth it. I should just save up for a classic Alhmabra 😉

September 3, 2020 at 2:14 pmI’ve been eyeing that coat! May I ask what size you bought it in? I’m pretty short, 5’1 so its difficult to find coats that aren’t overly long on me 🙁
