1. First, if you would – please allow me a few quick updates on my book! I’ve been meaning to share that Family Trust was selected as one of Barnes & Noble’s Fall 2018 Discover picks – I have followed this program for years and have found some really great writers/books there – you can read more about the program and its selection process, here. And also, I love my local Barnes and shop there as much as possible in person (along with a few local indies) because they have wonderful children’s programs. And honestly, as much as we love it, we really don’t want to live in a world where Amazon is the only place to buy books.
Second – for anyone that preordered (from any outlet) – my fantastic publisher, William Morrow/HarperCollins, has kindly put together a wonderful little “thank you” gift based on the book’s cover! It’s a lovely adhesive wallet sleeve, that you can stick to the back of your smartphone case to turn it into a wallet (the photo above is modeled on an iPhone 5, so it likely won’t take up the whole back space of your phone). It’s completely free, will be shipped to you when the book launches in two months, and is very very pretty! Just go to the site and put in your receipt details and the case will be shipped to you. It’s only available on a limited basis so if you are considering ordering maybe do so! (This is where I really beg you. Shamelessly.). Thank you, thank you.
2. Okay, now onto what I’m eyeing this week. This chic longer sweater blazer, from J.Crew.
I love my other sweater blazer (worn here, first photo), so have been on the lookout for other versions so I don’t overdo it. And I love this pretty open coat! An easy layer you can start wearing now, for summer nights, and into fall. The only thing that I noticed about this one is it isn’t 100% merino, but rather a blend of cotton poly and wool, which is kind of annoying. I noticed that the new sweater blazers are in this material too (if you want the merino one, you can still find a few here).
3. By the way, did you know that J.Crew is having a re-launch? Apparently the official thing happens on September 10th, but given the little pointers in the article, it seems like most of it has already happened. Which makes sense, because I don’t think retail is where you want to dramatically introduce a bunch of changes at once, right? But what do I know?
4. An interesting article via the NY Times, that I want to hear your opinion about, over what happens when the wife makes more than the husband in a marriage (spoiler: both parties kind of lie).
5. One of those juicy articles, via The Daily Mail, about an estate battles within the family of Vera Wang. Just like with the Aoki family, I had no idea about this!
6. This week I read Sabrina, by Nick Drnaso.
I haven’t read a graphic novel in a long while. I love them, but I just don’t have the bandwidth, so I kind of consciously eliminated them. Our local librarian recommended Sabrina to me though, and the cover intrigued me enough to try it. And…I ended up finishing it in a day, staying up well past midnight to do so (and paid for it the next morning when my kids starting making noise at 6 AM). I can’t describe Sabrina in my opinion accurately except to say that it’s about this moment, this moment in the world where we both fear and consume the news at an alarming rate. After I finished it, I couldn’t sleep for another twenty minutes just going over it in my head. I haven’t thought this much after reading a book in a while. Disturbing, precise, and highly recommended.

August 31, 2018 at 8:40 amI was eying the sweater blazer! Probably getting it since it’s on 40%, which is rare for J.Crew. I think you might have linked the wrong article for #4. 🙂

September 1, 2018 at 8:45 pmI kept procrastinating, but I finally pre-ordered your book. Congratulations on the B&N selection! I almost ordered the JCrew sweater blazer in that color, but was also annoyed that the material was not 100% merino wool. So I passed, and saved $77! 🙂

September 3, 2018 at 3:16 pmThank you very much for pre-ordering! And did you see that there is still some of the original merino one in stock? I ordered another one too!

September 2, 2018 at 11:36 amThanks for the link to the phone/wallet. It’s a gorgeous print.
I’m intrigued by your description of Sabrina and will check it out. For a book club, I read the graphic novel Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. It was surprisingly immersive. The same feeling I get reading subtitles in a foreign movie.

September 3, 2018 at 9:11 pmOh, Fun Home is wonderful! I’m so glad you liked it. I think this one is in the same tone but quite a bit darker, but very well written.
