1. Help! Desperately seeking lower priced version of this very chic Rachel Comey jumpsuit.
In short, I love this jumpsuit. I love everything about it – the cropped length (which will be more like full on me), the neckline, the clean flowy lines. The fabric. I love everything except the price. I can’t find any inexpensive versions except for SUPER cheap ones in cheap jersey and I don’t want to go that low. Any ideas? Otherwise I will be adding this to my fall buy list!
2. A series of interesting articles via The NY Times about the antique furniture market, starting with this piece on Chippendale furniture. I always had a “thing” for Chippendale furniture – not that I actually admired it, but I remember seeing on TV some soap opera star refer to it when I was a little kid, and afterwards I forever thought itas the height of good taste. I was a little disappointed the first time I saw a piece in person. Anyway, after you read the first article, move onto this piece, about how low the market for antiques might go.
3. A beautiful, touching piece by Pamela Druckerman: To Live and Die in Paris. A must read.
4. And finally, a piece by Vanessa Friedman, on Jeff Bezos, the…fashion icon? I just realized everything I shared was from The NY Times. I try not to do this but I actually accumulate articles over the weeks and it just ended up this way. Sorry if I landed you behind a paywall!
5. To counteract the NYT overload, a great criticism piece by Roxane Gay, via Refinery 29, on the Netflix show Insatiable.
5. This week I finished 1Q84, by Haruki Murakami.
Okay, I have to admit that much like Wolf Hall, this was a bit of a slog for me. I had a hard time finishing it. At first I thought it was a no brainer – I’ve loved other Murakami works I’ve tried, and this one was described as kind of dystopian? Sold! The issue is that like all Murakami, it’s a bit dreamy, meandering…which is fine, but it’s also really long (like 900 pages). I bought my copy on the Kindle, so I didn’t realize how long it was – it was published in three separate editions in Japan. At times I was finding myself a bit drowsy. But I made it through, and like all Murakami, I’ve been thinking about it ever since. If you’re a thoughtful, patient reader, if you love Japan and Japanese culture, if you love Murakami – I recommend 1Q84.

August 24, 2018 at 7:24 pmBtw, speaking of antique furniture, have you heard of Mimi Thorisson? Her old chateau reno project totally got me into the antique furniture fantasy land…

August 24, 2018 at 8:21 pmHi! I know you said you didn’t want a super cheap jumpsuit, but this ASOS option has most of the features of the Rachel Comey (relaxed lapels, drapey bottom, elbow-length sleeves, etc.) I’ve linked it in gray, but it also comes in black! (BONUS: petite sizing!!!)

August 25, 2018 at 11:58 am1Q84 drove me nuts. I was such an avid Murakami fan before but maybe it was my younger age that allowed me to ignore the way he wrote for women. I still love the dreamy, mystical way he writes for all non-women situations (e.g. Food? Yes! The nighttime? Yes!) and men. Immediately after reading 1Q84, I went through a period of only reading women writers, because I was so disillusioned and thought that men could not write fully fleshed out women characters — I was so, so tired about reading about a woman’s breasts all the time. A bit dramatic, maybe.

August 25, 2018 at 9:51 pmI read your comment multiple times because you stated so perfectly many things I thought while reading but was unable to elucidate fully. Especially sometimes the women’s dialogue…I was like, what woman TALKS like that??

August 29, 2018 at 4:27 pmI hope Jeff Bazo still get some of himself left in his style. He was actually doing all fine without this style makeupover. I am intrigued to see what’s next. Can you believe Amazon was founded in 1994? The same year as Netscape! One year earlier than Yahoo!
