1. The newest item on my shoe wishlist (which I will very likely get before fall): these Prada suede sandals.
I feel like I’m always searching for the perfect platform sandal. It’s been taking forever. Prada is one of my favorites – the brand is always comfortable for me, and I know my size (36.5). Lately they’ve had a ton of platform sandals, which is great, but sometimes the platform is a little too much given my height…I feel a little Betty Boop. Which is why I was so happy to see these. The price isn’t great but isn’t terrible and I think in black, they will sell out at full price, so I’m mulling…
2. A great article, via The Cut, on the life of a celebrity accountant – aka someone who tries to keep celebrities from overextending themselves. I wish we could hear some names. Someone besides Johnny Depp!
3. A fantastic profile, via The NY Times, on Lindsay Lohan and her new life as a Mykonos beach club entrepreneur. What was interesting to me was that she keeps such a distance from her family. I’m happy for her.
4. Can I share a small brag? My first trade book review came out from Publishers Weekly and I was fortunate enough to receive a star (and no, Tiger moms – it isn’t out of five, it’s just either a star review or not). I’ve been having nightmares of being eviscerated, so I was so happy to read this. And an update that if you would like a signed book, you can order them from Books Inc for delivery or local pickup (just put in the notes what you’d like the inscription to be). You can also of course pre-order from Amazon. Will you allow me to say that pre-orders are important for a book? They are! Thank you!!
5. An interesting piece, via The WSJ – lessons from a six month shopping detox. I can completely relate to that line about ending up on page 8234902384 of the Net-A-Porter sale and having wasted your night. Oh man.
6. This week I finished The Idiot, by Elif Batuman.
To be honest, having read some reviews of this book before I picked it up – I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. It’s one of those ones described as “slower moving” and “quiet and thoughtful”, as opposed to the big action plots that my lazy brain tends to like. And for the first few dozen pages, I was like…I don’t know if I can make it through, I’m not sure what’s happening. And yet I did..and slowly it became more and more engrossing…until I found myself staying up until 2 AM last night to finish it, which is high praise for anybody who just spent the day alone with a toddler and a baby. Batuman’s book reminded me of so much of my own college experience…not necessarily the big social aspects but yes those smaller, quieter bits…the self doubt, the idiotic behavior. For anyone who wants to relive college, your first unrequited love, all those feelings of having everything be possible yet nothing come to fruition – I highly recommend The Idiot. Beautiful writing that makes me awfully jealous. Will be thinking of this one for a while.

July 6, 2018 at 10:47 amAhhh I went nuts and already ordered your book before the signed copies were available— kind of like buying something right before it goes on sale?? Ha!
Not even going to read the review: I know it’ll be amazing, and I’ll be surprised about the plot.
Have a great weekend and please keep us updated on your writing journey. 🙂
