1. Have any of you ever tried a bag from Baggu?
I have – well one of their little foldable nylon bags, which I think is currently occupying my 35 Bolide. But I recently saw someone with this great slouchy hobo the other day and intrigued. It reminded me a bit of the now discontinued (very sad) Bottega Cervo hobo, although of course more casual. And the leather was quite yummy.
The downside to this from what I’ve been able to tell is that there is no zip pocket – I’m definitely a zip pocket person! But otherwise, I’m quite tempted. What do you think? And the price is very reasonable!
2. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this article, via The Business of Fashion – Editors or Influencers? Sometimes Its Hard To Tell.
3. A fascinating interview with Andre Leon Talley, via NY Times (and written by the excellent Vanessa Friedman). What do you think about when he says he’s flat broke? I wonder how fashion people spend their money and budget. Is it OK to say you’re broke while wearing that kaftan? Well I guess we all make our choices.
4. Remember that crazy article I linked to in Vanity Fair a few weeks earlier, about that fake heiress who conned a bunch of people in NY out of a lot of money? Guess what? There’s a deep dive update! And it’s really really good. Check it out here, via The Cut.
5. This week I finished You Think It, I’ll Say It, by Curtis Sittenfeld.
I know that there are quite a few readers that are Sittenfeld fans, but for some reason, I had never read any of her books. I had started American Wife a while back, but then got distracted (aka gave birth) and then didn’t go back to it, and I’ve never read Prep. Nor am I normally a short story reader – usually I prefer novels – so I wasn’t sure how it’d be. But I really, really enjoyed this volume. I sped through the stories at a much faster pace than I thought I would – they were just so well written yet also so relatable and especially in my current life stage now, aka young (ish) mommyhood. My favorites were The Prairie Wife, and The World Has Many Butterflies, but as the case with story collections, I think each reader will have different favorites. Highly recommend You Think It, I’ll Say it.

June 1, 2018 at 9:41 amI’ve enjoyed the Curtis Sittenfeld novels I’ve read (American Wife and Eligible), I didn’t realize she had a short story collection out!
The Anna Delvey story is really out there, I can’t even imagine the kind of guts it takes to do that. And er, she generally does come across as someone who’d likely do it again.

June 1, 2018 at 9:51 amMy experience with Baggu is also limited to the nylon totes, with the exception of one leather change purse that I bought on a whim and was reasonably impressed with. So I would imagine the leather on that handbag is decent.
Just read the Sittenfield book too! My first by her. I love short stories and enjoyed these. I wished there were more! Currently reading Stephen King’s new book and enjoying it.
Have a great weekend!

June 1, 2018 at 10:21 amThere is a zip pocket in the bag, according to the description. Makes me tempted! That’s what I hate about the Goyard St. Louis tote – that little pochette doesn’t cut if for me.

June 2, 2018 at 8:00 amI have a BAGGU lunch bag. which is basically a reusable ‘plastic bag’. I use it sometimes if I only have one small item, instead of bringing a real lunch bag and it saves the environment.

June 4, 2018 at 2:38 amHaven’t seen the Baggu leather bags but love the patterns on the shopping bags (there’s a particularly lovely lilac and orange fruit design out there). That said, I hate the handle placement which is why I haven’t bought one – it’s sooo uncomfortable to carry in the shoulder!
Kat, thank you (as always) for the mesmerizing articles. I particularly enjoyed Vogue in the late 90s/early 2000s (the best years, really – it’s gone so downhill) and recall Andre Leon Talley fondly. You’ve got to hope he is sitting on an absolute treasure trove of goodies and memorabilia that he could sell should he really need money.
As for the editors and their side hustles – it starts to become very clear when they are just promoting because they are paid to do so, not because they really like it. I tend to just skip over those posts.
Xin – SO agree with you
