First – just a quick note to say THANK YOU so much for your kind words and messages about my book. I was very nervous to share the news and you were wonderful and kind and thoughtful. Thank you so very much. Now, onto the rest!
1. First, my wishlist item of the week – these gold brocade pumps, via Dries van Noten.
Lately I’ve come to terms that my entire wardrobe is basically black and neutrals and the only way I am ever going to get color is really through my shoes. So I’ve tried out a pair of pink shoes and green shoes and now I’ve been eyeing these yellow brocade ones. What do you think? I’m actually very into brocade, I love it, except that usually on clothes it totally ages me a decade. These shoes though, I think would go perfect with one of those nice black cropped pantsuits going around. Yes? Yes?
2. An interesting article via the New Republic, about tech remaking fashion in its image. What do you think? Actually, in my own experience I haven’t seen as much Everlane out and about (which I now see has free shipping for the weekend) – which surprises me, because I tend to think of it as a larger brand – but I do see the Allbirds everywhere. My son loves to ride the Caltrain so I take him fairly often and whenever we go there are tons and tons of them on both the men and women.
3. You’ve all heard about the “Marchesa comeback” yes? What do you think? There’s been a few articles published on the topic, including a good one via The NY Times, but this one, via The Cut, examines what Anna Wintour is asking us to forgive in her editors letter and is my favorite. And if you need an introductory primer, check out this piece, also via The Cut.
4. A another interesting article via Vogue – This is 40 – and Pregnant. You know I think I’m done with two, but then articles like this kind of terrify (and comfort) me that I might still have time to change my mind. Ahh!!
5. This Tuesday, the writer and journalist Tom Wolfe passed away.
Tom Wolfe was one of my favorite writers – I can still remember the first time I read A Man In Full, which was the first book by him I ever read, because my parents had bought a copy at Costco (Price Club back then)? He’s someone whose storytelling I have always admired, and one of those author where I’ve read almost all of their work. While I think I’ve recommended a few of his books over the years, I’d like to do a rehash of my favorites. They’re all worth a try! And I’d love to hear your thoughts (good, bad) on Wolfe and your favorites from him as well.
I Am Charlotte Simmons (cringe inducing at times but also very, very good at other parts).

May 18, 2018 at 12:50 pmHi Kathy,
When I read the article about Georgina Chapman in Vogue, I was sure you’d include it as a topic for discussion. I’m delighted you did, so I’ll let loose on one point. Vogue admonishes the reader for asking whether Chapman knew about her husband and, if she didn’t know, how she could have been so oblivious. Maybe she didn’t have a clue but the questions are perfectly reasonable. It reminds me of the criticism levelled at people that asked the obvious question at the time of their wedding – what does she see in him? And the self-righteous answer from a Vogue staffer back then? It’s not all about looks (oh shallow ones), she’s attracted to his wonderful personality.
Quite so.

May 24, 2018 at 2:36 amI suspected that Marchesa/Georgina Chapman was making a comeback. At first, there was an interview on Elle or Vogue, I don’t quite remember. Then, she was at the Met Gala with celebrities wearing her gowns. Then, Anna Wintour went onto Stephen Colbert’s show and talked about the Met Gala and out of nowhere mentioned Georgina briefly. I just felt like they must’ve made a deal (I know I’m being real cynical) and now Wintour is doing whatever she can to help out Georgina.
To be honest, I just sense something fishy with Georgina. If she’s truly innocent, then she’s a victim as well, fooled by her husband. There’s no “forgiving” necessary since she did nothing wrong. But if she knew, then she’s just another enabler of his crimes. Even though she vehemently denied that she knew, I’m not buying that. Was she really that blind, easily fooled? I mean it’s perfectly normal that we the public do not know, but that’s her husband, there must be some rumors throughout the year. And it wasn’t exactly utterly out of character for those rumors to be true, she had witnessed Harvey being a total a-hole to people. So if she just turned a blind eye to all those talks, then she’s really a fellow enabler in a way. And that article on Elle or Vogue really didn’t address any pressing issues, it felt like they purposely avoided all the important questions, it just showed her insincerity further.
