Weekend Update

1. This week, sharing this adorable and perfect for summer straw and bamboo bag from Sensi Studio.

I used to be a total sucker for all sorts of straw bags, because I always found it hard to find a good one, but it seems that they’ve been “in” this year and so there’s been a ton of choice. So I’ve been much more picky. There’s just something perfect about this Sensi Studio one though – the size, which is neither too or small, the pom poms, which are just right, and of course the perfect bamboo handle. Together they make a very nice package.

PS: There’s also a beautiful tan version! Currently sold out, no surprise, but it might come back. I think the black is equally nice.

2. Adored this article, via The NY Times, about a retirement home in Milan for musicians. How wonderful is this?

3. Thank you Ava for recommending this amazing Vanity Fair article about one of the magazine writer’s friendships with a wealthy “socialite”….one which would eventually land her in debt to the tune of $62,000 (to pay for a villa at La Mamounia, no less!!).

4. A great article via The WSJ – How Tony Podesta, a Washington Power Broker, Lost It All. Necessary reading for any and all sides of the political spectrum.

5. This week I’m recommending The Vanity Fair Diaries, by Tina Brown.

The Vanity Fair Diaries covers the period of Tina Brown serving as editor in chief of the magazine (starting from when she was TWENTY NINE…do we feel bad yet?). I’ve always been fan of Brown and her writing – she is sharp, super clever, and often quite cutting. The book reads like a true diary, complete with gossipy dish, snarky remarks, and Brown’s emotional swings as she experiences major ups and downs of not only her career but personal life. For anyone wanting to learn more about Tina Brown, a history of the media establishment, or simply interested in how (one) woman was able to rise to power – I highly recommend The Vanity Fair Diaries.

Love the straw bag! I’ve been on the hunt for one…they’re trending now so there are so many cute choices.

I read Tina’s book, too, and it was great. I love the British wit and her occasional snideness!

That musician’s retirement home is great! It must be so much fun to be a young student living there.

The Vanity Fair story was fascinating. It’s so easy to be seduced by someone like that— but it makes you wonder what the others in the friend group saw that the writer didn’t?
