Weekend Update

1. I’ve always received wonderful advice from readers when seeking out certain items, so today I’m sharing another conundrum of mine – comfortable high heeled sandals.

I have tried so many different pairs of sky high heeled sandals over the years, and nothing beats the Saint Laurent Tributes in terms of great looks and decent comfort – not even heels of a much lower height. It must have something to due with the design of the straps and the super thick platform. I have two pairs of these now (one in the high version above, and another in the lower heeled version), but find myself in need of fun patent pair of sandals and wonder if I should be trying anything else? Plus, these bad boys are now near $900! Huh.

Do any of you have recommendations for pretty comfortable (I won’t say super comfortable, as I believe that is near impossible), high heeled sandals? Please, please share!

2. Some of you may have read the recent news about Condé Nast’s recent sale of Lucky Magazine. I receive Lucky each month in the mail due to some kind of free promotion they had, but if I’m being brutally honest I usually end up flipping through and tossing it out within five minutes, similar to a catalog. It hasn’t appealed to me for a while.

I found this article, via Racked, written by Lucky’s former web editor Leslie Price a fascinating insight into the inner workings of not just Lucky, but also Condé Nast.

3. For any die hard fans of Orange Is The New Black, or really for anyone interested in the entertainment industry, I’d recommend this great profile via The Hollywood Reporter of OITNB’s showrunner, Jenji Kohan.

4. This week, I’m recommending a classic graphic novel – Alan Moore’s V For Vendetta.

vforvendetta

One of my favorite graphic novels and I would recommend for any Margaret Atwood (or similar author) type fan who would be interested in trying out this genre. Thought provoking and at times inspirational. And even though it’s a bit cliche, I’ll still say it – even if you’ve seen the movie with Natalie Portman, the novel is so much better. So much!

Have a nice weekend!

I subscribed to Lucky since the first issue, but I let it go last year. I realized the same thing you did – I would flip through in 5 minutes and recycle it. Shame…I really enjoyed it for such a long time! Of course, I’m finding the same problem with a lot of my long-time subscriptions – I’m bored, there is nothing interesting to read, and the advertisements are the same in all magazines – so I’m letting more subscriptions run out without renewing. The latest to go is In Style.

That’s sad, I used to love InStyle and read it when I was younger. I still love Vanity Fair!

Same for me with ALL magazines–I don’t subscribe nor am I tempted to pick up any magazines anymore. I rely on blogs for the kind of information I used to get in magazines, and not the blogs associated with magazines, only blogs like Feather Factor by individuals because they are SO much more interesting and informative. I get 3 journals, all having to do with the field I’m in, and that’s it.

    Hi Katherine!
I highly recommend Gianvito Rossi heels!
Sans platforms: 5+ hours, all nighters. It could easily be the shape of my feet but they are the most comfortable high heels I have ever owned.

Really! OK I might have to give them a try – I do love the cut of their pumps!

Try Manolo! I own many many different designers, and not one is as comfortable as Manolo across the board.

I’ve hear Gianvito Rossi is also good, but I prefer Sergio Rossi’s aesthetics (and the shoes are comfortable too).

I’ve had such mixed experiences with Manolo but will try again…I do have a few pumps which are INCREDIBLY comfortable. For some reason haven’t had the same luck with sandals.

You can get the YSL Tributes for a lot cheaper at hgbagsonline.com =) I’ve bought bags from Erica and have been very very curious and tempted by her offers. She has sales on top of the good prices (check out her FB Hgbags, I believe) she has coupons and discounts which makes things better.

I’ve been quite tempted by them but think that I should only buy shoes that I can actually try, even if I am a Hobbit and do need any lift I can get.
