I am typically quite conservative with my shoe choices. I don’t have an unlimited budget, so in the past I’ve focused on building up a good selection of classic pumps in neutral colors that cover the gamut from work to evening. Since I more or less have my basics covered now, I only try to indulge in a shoe when I find a pair that seems really cool and unique. I had these Nicholas Kirkwood shoes on my list since I first saw them months and months ago, and when a pair reappeared in my size and on sale I picked them up.
My favorite part of course was the ruffled back. Even though the shoe is a conservative black suede, the back is what makes all the difference, especially when walking away!
At first glance these shoes are really high, with a major platform. I love the looks of shoes like these but find them quite intimidating, and so in the past have veered away from many a tempting pair of Charlotte Olympias. After I put them on though, I found these Kirkwoods quite comfortable – and easier to pair than I thought! They even worked with a fairly conservative cashmere sweater and scarf.
I’m excited to take these pumps out soon for a more formal occasion. I can definitely see the lure of “statement shoes” from my brief experience so far with these, and can see myself being tempted by many more in the future. What are some of your favorite statement shoes out there?

February 1, 2013 at 10:08 amWow, now those are some gorgeous shoes! They are feminine because of the ruffles, but they are also a bit edgy because of the platform. Amazing!

February 1, 2013 at 10:57 amI love your new shoes; you look lovely in this beautifully accessorized outfit! I’m drawn to Charlotte Olympias as well, but my most covered pair of statement shoes is the Valentino rockstud pump/flat. Maybe one of these days…

February 1, 2013 at 11:12 amI love your look, You are great 🙂 just thought I will let you know that if you put your tops inside your shorts/skirts/trousers it will visually make your legs look longer… maybe you can try that and let the followers let you know what they think 🙂

February 1, 2013 at 2:10 pmSanita I need to do that more, I am lazy about tucking in generally. I will never turn down advice to make stumpy legs look longer!! 🙂

February 2, 2013 at 5:45 pmThese do remind me a teeny bit of Charlotte Olympia pumps! I think they’re stunning, especially with the ruffle detail in the back 🙂 My personal favorite statement heels are by Anastasia Radevich, pretty much anything from her Kinetic collection. The thought of standing up in those makes me fear for my ankles, but they’re just so beautiful.

February 3, 2013 at 6:29 pmI love these shoes Katherine (more so than the other pair you linked to)! I wondered how anyone could walk in them so I’ll just take your word that they are comfortable. They’re conservative and flirty at the same time. 🙂

February 4, 2013 at 12:05 amI absolutely LOVE them and you should too! Think a black quite classic dress, add these shoes and you will stand out anyhow in a chic and discrete way. Perfection!

February 4, 2013 at 3:58 pmWHOA! They just make your legs go on forever! They’re definitely statement heels. I’m in awe that you could walk in them. I’m still building up my classic shoe collection but I’d love to get a pair of the ever popular Valentino rockstuds. So in love with them.

February 28, 2013 at 4:58 pmHey Kat!! Wow i just saw this post and you look stunning in those kirkwood heels! Congrats on the new venture of statement heels! You rock them. 🙂 I missed them out last year so I am glad to find that they released this style this season with other colour combinations. How is the sizing may i ask? Did you take the same size as your YSL, CL, Valentino or Chanel? Not sure how the toe box feels? Narrow or just ok? Hope you can shed me some light. Thanks thanks! Enjoy yours in good health! -Mia-
