Every year when summer starts to turn into fall, I feel a little sulky. I love warm weather and even though I love fall clothes, I don’t like the temperature change. To me there are few things worse than finding yourself in complete darkness at 7 PM and being greeted by freezing cold air when you step out of the shower first thing in the morning (GRR!).
Whenever the sulks come on in early September, I always do a little splurge on a fall sweater. I love sweaters! I adore the feeling of being cozy and wrapped up in a great knit. I’ll typically buy a few sweaters fall/winter season but since I already have a lot, I am careful about each one I add.
This year, I wanted to share with you my favorite and first new sweater that I picked out for fall – that I absolutely love! It’s by Vince – a brand that I always find great basics at. I still have and wear my Vince sweaters from 4-5 years ago.
What really drew me to this sweater was the cowl neck. I’m usually not a huge cowl neck person but I liked how Vince incorporated their version as a cozy turtleneck. The length is also great – shorter in front but longer in back (so you can get away with wearing it with leggings). The knit is mostly all natural fibers (a must for me unless I’m doing a cheapie splurge at H&M) and very soft.
I made my husband take this photo while he undoubtedly rolled his eyes while I was blinded by fabric. See how long the neck is? There’s a lot of ways you can wear this sweater – casual with the neck bunched around, or more formally with careful folds of the neck.
I bought my sweater with a 20% code (currently there’s a Friends and Family sale at Bloomingdale’s here, code is FNF). If there’s a bigger sale I might want to add the camel color as well! Revolve (here), Nordstrom (here) will also price match, and it’s also on Shopbop (here) for tax free shopping.
What do you all think of the sweater? And what are some of your go to sweater brands?

September 28, 2012 at 8:17 amMy favorite brand is still TSE, shame that I can’t find it as easily here anymore. I’ll have to give this brand a try, I love the turtle on you.

September 28, 2012 at 9:02 amOne of the things that I was learned to admire so much was Vince sweaters when I worked at NM. Everyday I’d walk by them and just had to touch it because the material is so wonderfully soft and cozy. This post definitely brought back some memories for me! 🙂 Cozy sweaters + leggings = most comfortable casual outfit period! Have a great weekend!

September 28, 2012 at 10:05 amI didn’t know you worked at NM! Lucky you 🙂 Yes sweater + leggings = my ultimate cozy outfit and travel outfit too!

September 28, 2012 at 10:12 amHAH, I feel the same way! I like fall but LOVE heat so I’m more than a little sulky when I have to layer even more, I’m downright pouty. Though I don’t know why that bothers me when I love sweaters and coats more than any sane person should ….
Love your sulk-sweater. 🙂
P.S. I saw an article about holiday retail hiring starting earlier this year! 😉

September 28, 2012 at 11:08 amLOL! We need to get in our apps early if we want to do our plan then! One year I’ll have to really try, though I would probably be rejected anyway, ha!

September 28, 2012 at 10:33 amLove Vince! Their clothing is such good value for money and there is always something intriguing about the way their basics are cut, this sweater with its hem and neckline exemplifies that.
I don’t buy knits very often – my favourite sweaters are a yolk-coloured cowl neck with bell sleeves by See by Chloe, a grey slouchy knit by Whistles, a dark red Pringle cardigan, and an ancient black and white short sleeved Breton that belonged to my dad (thirty years old, picked up from Marks and Spencer, and still going strong!)

September 28, 2012 at 10:39 amYou are right on the dot for why I love Vince too! The 30 year old M&S sweater just confirms your earlier point that a less expensive item doesn’t necessarily mean disposable fashion – I hope I have some of my items that long!
Ammu
September 28, 2012 at 10:49 amYou know, I have never found anything from M&S myself that has lasted this long. I don’t think they make clothing to last anymore, unlike earlier, when consumers expected to buy items for the long haul. I have a hand-me-down M&S scarf from my dad, bought during that same London visit thirty years ago, and it’s still in great condition. I bought some gorgeous pieces from the store five years ago, but none of them displayed the same kind of quality unfortunately. They looked wonderful in the beginning but the beauty wore off faster than I would have liked.

September 28, 2012 at 2:58 pmI kind of feel obligated to tell you that you going all giraffe-neck on this post with the cowl neck made my day. Seriously. You are amazing.

September 28, 2012 at 3:20 pmLove your post. I’ve been following your post for half a yr now. You mentioned about Nordstrom
Price matching…have you tried?
Katherine
September 28, 2012 at 4:16 pmThanks Lisa! Yes they will price match and are pretty nice typically. I try to buy almost everything via them due to their customer service but for this sweater I wanted gray so went with Shopbop (they only have camel…which I want next!).
I would try and buy the item and then call customer service or livechat immediately afterwards to check if they can price match Bloomingdales – if it’s on the Bloomingdale’s site it should be OK. If not then you can try and cancel the order..or you can try asking them before you actually place the order. Hope that helps Lisa!

September 28, 2012 at 6:07 pmThanks Katherine…I will try your suggestion. FYI…shopbop is charging tax now:(
Katherine
September 28, 2012 at 8:06 pmWhat! It must be cause Amazon started and they own Shopbop…wow, what a bummer! Let me know how it goes with Nordstrom, I might be asking them to do the same soon! I would think it would be no problem. Have a nice weekend!

September 29, 2012 at 12:11 amThat so cracked me up – that last picture. Absolutely fantastic (I’m such a big kid). That’s exactly the kind of thing I would do and my hubs would be there rolling his eyes too – maybe they were separated at birth? The jumper is lovely and very similar to my favourite Mango jumper which I featured recently. And it’s grey so it’s perfect!

September 29, 2012 at 1:53 pmOne of my favorite soft sweater tunics is also from Mango! They have great sweaters 🙂

September 29, 2012 at 4:04 amBest photograph of the year, that was so funny! The last few times I’ve ben in LA I’ve had to buy a sweatshirt because I was freezing, I now know that it isn’t always warm in SoCal.
Katherine
September 29, 2012 at 1:52 pmYes LA isn’t always so warm! Norcal is even worse of course, that must be why you’re an LA gal 🙂

September 29, 2012 at 11:40 amLOL! I like that you never take yourself too seriously. Great photo BTW! I’ve been crazy about Vince sweaters since forever. The only thing that stopped me from buying them is that they charge crazy prices here in the UK. My other alternatives so far have been Uniqlo (which I try to buy in bulk) and Zadig & Voltaire.
Katherine
September 29, 2012 at 1:52 pmMarlene did you read the last on Zadig & Voltaire though? http://fashionista.com/2012/09/do-zadig-voltaire-not-want-chinese-tourists-at-their-new-exclusive-hotel/
