Today’s interview is with the sweet and quite frankly, super adorable Krystal Schlegel. Krystal is a senior at SMU, lives in Dallas, has fabulous taste and has hosted opening parties for brands like Christian Louboutin and Lela Rose. I’ve always had a fascination with Texas style and culture (why else would I have sat through multiple horrific episodes of Big Rich Texas??) and was thrilled to have the chance to find out more about Krystal’s life and her thoughts on Dallas style. Enjoy meeting the beautiful Krystal!
First things first – who are you? What do you do, and where do you live?
I’m Krystal Schlegel. I’m a fashion blogger, event host, and also a senior at Southern Methodist University.
Can you describe some of your style? What is a typical day look for you?
I’ve always had a very classic style. I would say it’s very Chanel with a young girl twist. My daily uniform is usually a structured jacket and J Brand jeans. Every once in a while I play with trends, but it is usually a cheap thrill from Zara. I would never splurge on a trendy item.
When did you first start getting into fashion? What was your first designer “splurge” purchase?
I’ve always loved fashion. I can’t remember a time where the highlight of my day wasn’t getting to pick out my outfit, or what my mom or friends would wear. I didn’t realize I could make a career out of it until I got to college.
My J Brand Jeans and my Hermes Birkin bag.
What about your absolute favorite items in the world? And what would you like to get one day?
My favorite items are hand me down Chanel jackets from my mom and sisters. They’re on a rotation schedule. An item on my wish list at the moment is the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag.
I know that you are from Dallas! I’m fascinated with Texas style, can you describe what makes it different and unique?
A big difference with Texas women is they like to get “done up.” Nails, hair, make up- it’s all a priority in Dallas. Women usually dress up just to go to the grocery store.
What was it like to debut in New York and Dallas? Can you share a little about the process, and about your dress?
My dress was Monique Lhuillier. My favorite part about the New York Ball was it was international, so I met so many amazing people. The Dallas Symphony Debutaunte Ball was special to me because my mother used to be the Chairman of the Symphony Ball, and my sisters made there debut there as well.
What is your dream job that you’d like to have someday?
I can’t narrow it down. I’d love to have a styling business, be a writer, and maybe get into designing- I just haven’t quite figured out my plan to getting there! 😉
How do you decide when to splurge on an item?
I divide the cost by the about of times I think I’ll wear it when deciding where to spend. I never splurge on trends!
What are some of your other passions and hobbies?
Fashion pretty much takes over my life. I love traveling, spending time with my family, and floral design.
Where are your favorite places to visit?
My favorite places to travel are Paris and Italy. I also love to go to my parents home town in Canada during the summer where we have a beach house on Lake Huron. It is very relaxing. As for hotels, you can’t beat the Peninsula Beverly Hills! (Note – I agree!)
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Treat everyone else the way you want to be treated.
Finally…please share something surprising about yourself.
Well, I graduated from floral school in Paris the summer before I started my blog. It is what inspired me to start my blog. I also have this weird thing where I don’t like to touch brown paper bags or construction paper. The last part made me laugh…actually I have a friend with similar fears of construction paper (and chalk), so Krystal you are not alone! I hope you all enjoyed meeting the very stylish and down to earth Krystal, and thank you to Krystal for sharing some of her very charmed life with us. March 14, 2012 at 2:51 pmWow – Krystal has such great style (and is so lucky to have been exposed to so much already!) I love that she has a fresh style, but with classic pieces as well.
I definitely agree with the Golden rule and practice it as well (which unfortunately is a rarity in my office!)

March 14, 2012 at 2:51 pmKat, I just love your interviews! As always of course 🙂 Dallas and Texas feels very far from here so it's so much fun to get a little look into that life. I really appreciate all the time you put into this!

March 16, 2012 at 3:49 pmLove her style! I did think a few of her answers were a little weak/not well thought out, but I think that probably is because so many of your interviewees are amazing! I am definitely going to check out Krystal's blog in any case. Thank you for doing these interviews!

March 19, 2012 at 5:04 pmI am so happy that you highlighted a fellow Dallas blogger. It's funny that you mention Big Rich Texas because I had the opportunity to shoot Heidi from the show this past Saturday! She was so funny and delightful to be around. She's a cool woman with a lot of flair! Not to mention she was rockin' her Chanel pearls and Louboutin wedges like a CHAMP!
